It's one of the few days that begins with a vowel - time to share knowledge! If you've got short and sweet questions about Fallen London or vowels, ask 'em here.

Are there any material rewards for pursuing Heart's Desire Ambition? How long is the University storyline? Why a bottle of Greyfields 1882 cost more than a bottle of 1879? Ambition content is not complete, and has not been updated in a while. Theoretically, there are significant rewards at the hypothetical end. In the meantime, some (all?) ambitions give a few unique pieces of equipment along the way.
The University storyline is of reasonable length. It's mostly carousel-driven. If you want, you could plow through it relatively quickly. Be aware that advancing the University storyline permanently loses access to previous content, and several people have expressed regret at locking themselves out without paying enough attention. There are a few beneficial grinds you lose access to, such as a repeatable source of Sudden Insights, and one of the few reliable ways to raise Hedonist rather high.
According to the item description, 1882 was a good year.

You will not be kicked out (and you can buy your way back in if you blame the provost) I think the rewards are the same except blaming the cryptozoologist gives some connected masters.

Item reward is different, but with equal value. There are slight quirk bumps involved. University connections are affected either way (though one is worse, as you can imagine), and there is the Master's bump Suinicide mentioned. All in all, things are reasonably equal, but you can find full details on the wiki, should you be so inclined.

So I was curious about the "One Who Has Indulged in Unknown Pleasures" quality when I spotted it on my sheet. Couldn't remember where it came from. Looking at the wiki it seems to be something to do with the Nemesis ambition, and yet my ambition is Light Fingers and always has been. How did I come by this quality? Am I bugged or is there some other way to get it? Can't see one on the wiki.
You can also get this quality when making the acquaintance of the Captivating Princess. After all, you share red honey with her...

If you increase it and hover over its picture, you can see it. Otherwise, you need to set it as your mantlepiece quality, go to your storynexus account page and view the source code. Search for "making waves" and it should say how much you have.

I imagine it's already been answered, Notability being as integral to the game as it is, but it's not like that means it's a bad question.
Here's a short, non-exhaustive list of ways I like to increase MW:
-Expeditions give quite a lot if you donate your findings to the University. If your Watchful's high enough to get at least 2 progress at 100%, the action-sink isn't too terrible. -The card "City Vices: A Rather Decadent Evening" gives MW equal to your Scandal when you play it, and some other goodies as well, although the MW is what makes it worth playing at all since it lowers Connected: Bohemian by quite a bit. Keep your Scandal at 7, equip the +Scandal items to play it, and you'll get a nice 9 CP every time you draw the card (which is often). -The Holy Grail of Notability is getting a Salon or Orphanage, but the investments you have to pool into getting anything out of them are tremendous. Just setting either one up needs a Handsome Townhouse as well as a wide range of other things, and then advancing your scheme costs a lot too. It's undoubtedly the best way to increase your MW, though. -Converting certain half-echo items at a 50:51 ratio to other categories gives some MW. It's relatively cheap, since the only thing you're paying is the opportunity cost of not doing other things. You could get to 5 notability doing nothing but this.
~~~
I, too, have a question. Has anyone ever tried getting Dramatic Tension to 77, or, God forbid, 777 on Hunter's Keep? There's a lot of fuss about the well there, and it does have an UP option...
So, I'm at the end of the university storyline.
I think I know what will happen if I accuse the provost (kicked out of the university), but what if I blame the cryptozoologist? Will I be still kicked out? Are there different rewards? I'm a bit torn on this decision RP-wise, so any help will be appreciated
De Gustibus was a semi-seasonal event, but hasn't been around for the last couple years. It may return in future but for now the recipe is just for collecting.
Please also note that you can only have one copy of the recipe at a time. Once you collect it, (barring the return of de Gustibus,) don't use that option again, as you'll only waste the Blackmail Material.
IIRC it's just a slighlty more loreific text, and doesn't advance anything.
The Zee will always be three cards regardless of your ship or lodgings, and I'm fairly certain the same goes for the other overseas places (I think the only one besides Polythreme that has cards is the tomb colonies? Could be wrong). Having a better lodging WILL affect the number of cards you can draw in the Nadir, which is quite useful. edited by Pumpkinhead on 4/19/2017
Tomb Colonies aren't reachable directly by Zee, just to note. The hand limit size occurred a year or so ago. However, you now have unlimited draw which is very important !
Does your type of lodgings/ship affect the number of cards in the Broad Unterzee in any way? What about overseas locations like Polythreme? I've just moved to my Brass Embassy Guest Room, then went out to the zee. I couldn't help but notice I still only get three cards in hand there. I'm still using the Rusty Tramp Steamer, though. There are a few specific locations where you always have room for exactly 3 cards in your hand, but also have an infinite deck (i.e. you can always draw a card as long as you have a place in your hand).
As far as I know, the only such locations are: (1) on the Zee, (2) during a Flash Lay, and (3) Sinning Jenny's School (Fate locked).
Any other location has a regular deck, and how many cards you can hold in your hand depends on your current lodgings.
I've got a couple questions of my own, too. First, is there anything like a marriage agency anywhere on the forum? Marrying another player looks like the best option from the stats' point of view (except for the Boneless Consort, who is… controversive), but marrying my own alt just seems lame from the roleplaying point of view. Second, has anyone ever tried making a Fallen London LARP? Not that I would be able to participate even if such things do happen, but… just being curious.
For your first question, there's this Singles Night thread from not too far back. It may be more about dating, but it's a place to start.
Now, in some cultures it's traditional to have a go-between (usually an older woman) handle negotiations between prospective couples. That could be a fun task for an assertive matron PC who wanted to help shy young PCs. ::Fights off urge to immediately go make an assertive matron alt::
Tanith Wyrmwood: Longshanks cat-burglar; Bohemian author; now, perhaps, something more. Bubbly, expressive, and affectionate. It’s not only still waters that run deep. Telemachia Lee: Gentle lady by birth, brawling Docker by choice. Good company in the drunk tank.
