so what i want to say relates to the parts of the survey which involve putting things in order what i want to say about it is that i think you should be able to keep some parts given to you out of the ordering process to avoid misleading whoever it is that has to look at these surveys.

for example in social media i dont never have and never will use Instagram or snap chat in my short life and the same goes for twitter and Reddit but i had to order those and i feel like its going to be misleading.

I just left slots blank if I never use them.

This resulted in two answers for the social media platforms, heh. I visit youtube and occasionally my friend's tumblrs, but that's it.

I gave number rankings for all the services in terms of my interest in them, but in the space for an essay I explained which services I had never used.

On a separate but related note, why? Why were we given the survey now? Linked to their making of Sunless Skies? Linked to their mention of more staff trained to return to Fallen London content?

I don't think this has to do specifically with Sunless Skies, since the game won't be finished for a quite a while and therefore won't need advertising immediately. It's probably for ongoing marketing purposes (such as how to eventually advertise the game, as well as Fallen London). For example, one of the survey questions asked about what (if any) podcasts you listen to; Failbetter recently placed ads in The Magnus Archives podcast (which by the way is very good, check it out!), so I'm sure they're interested to see what other podcasts or similar mediums might be good for advertising in.

I doubt my responses were much use to them, not using social media or following internet personalities, and when it asked what games I was currently playing, I listed various old ones like Carmageddon and Lufia 3 (as in fact, those are what I've been playing recently).

You are part of their FL audience and therefore your responses have a value. I too do not play the current trendy computer games; most of my game play is strategy board gaming. It is of value to FBG to see whether most of their audience is similarly disinterested in other current computer fare.

P.s. I've never heard of Carmageddon or Lufia 3. I'd appreciate it if you'd PM me with a short description of what they're about.

I also left blank the spots for services I don't use.

I clicked through too fast at the end and missed the link. So disappoint.

Oh, man, Carmageddon. The cartoon violence, wonky game balance and dreadful writing that defined by very early teens.

Hahah, man, I had a friend who loved playing games, the Lufia series among them, on the original hardware during college.

I've been kind of doing the same regarding games lately:
  • Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 for the Genesis / Megadrive
  • Gundam games like Battles in Space, Zeonic Front, and Journey to Jaburo for the PS2
  • Vagrant Story for PSOne, which I've wanted to play for a lot of my teenage and young adult life
  • Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 for the NES / Famicom
  • Dr. Mario for the NES / Famicom

I like to think it gives Failbetter an idea of the genre and gameplay mechanics we enjoy.

  • It was only available for a couple days - if you didn't log in during that time window, you unfortunately would've missed it.
