Working my way up to 5-card lodgings via Scraps, Airag Wine, and eventually Impossible Theorems
Was trading in Cryptic Clues into Whispered Hints at the University (I don't know of any other action that gets more than 100 Whispered Hints per action, and I have Cryptic Clues to burn -
I get Sudden Insights and Investigating off the action too.
What's the best use of Investigating?

Well, I can't really recall any outside of that in University storyline. And you might wanna look for the cheaper option to acquire that particular Lodging (you are after Royal Beth, right?).

You can Raid a Message drop in the flit (it's in the Chicanery Heights storylet). A success gives 270 cryptic clues, which you can then use to get more hints!
It is worth noting that succeeding completely resets your Investigating, so if you've got a lot of it built up it'll just go to waste the first time you do it. I did this with 90 once. That was fun.
