Not really for progressing in the story, besides just seeing what's there and the possibly really nice rewards. When you progress to gaining access to Nadir, it's definitely worth a peek. Scholar of the Correspondence won't increase from the other expeditions.

Good to know before I spend all my secrets on supplies and bug people for second chances! Thanks for your help.

Get supplies only using Dock Favours; otherwise it's not worth it. It may be slow, but the EPA is great!

I perfectly agree, but it becomes boring and looses it's flavour after many.
That's why I consider it best to do it via Favours: you can enjoy them regularly and the impact is to the best when you have a nice EPA. I moved to Thieves Cache after getting to few resources for Noman after 97 Blue expeditions. From the data I have (simulated), Thieves can go up to 4 EPA.

I enjoy the stories, I dislike the grinding and luck element, I was lucky for my scholar run where I sailed past every test so I could enjoy the stories.

A question on my would be murderer - I can see that there are rewards associated with assassins but do they affect the connected stats for a group? I'm keen to rebuild my connected Hell as it dropped to zero after my scholarly expedition.

Is there any reason to do the non-Tomb of the Seven Kings expeditions? Do they give you more Scholar of the Correspondence progress or is that a university thing (been kicked out after the investigation storyline).

That depends. How much do you like Echoes?

If you're living the dream - expedition supplies via Dock favors, 100% success on a buccaneering approach, and the RNG in a good mood - you can get in the neighborhood of 2 Echoes per action from the Shrine expedition a reasonable portion of the time, which is quite worth doing. The top reward is a pair of Night Whispers, which besides being worth 125 Echoes are also handy to have about the place. Of course, if you're not getting 100% success, or if the RNG gives you a Storm Threnody five times running, your return rate isn't going to be as great, but that's the nature of the beast. You can also, if you'd prefer, trade in your treasure for a stack of Making Waves and some improvement of your relationship with Benthic or Summerset.

If you want all the details up front (including strategies for maximizing profit), there's a very thorough article on the wiki:

The War of Assassins has no impact on Connections, just the material reward.

Connected: Hell is most efficiently raised by spending Casing in the Flit.

The amount of Making Waves and Connections you get is piddling compared to what you give up for it. Only use this if you are extremely pressed for time.

I do quite like Echoes but I have a more complicated relationship with the RNG.

Thanks for the link, I used part of it to get through the Tomb of Seven - this was a rare time where I had a charmed run on the RNG and a stack of second chances to preserve supplies. The airs tip was particulary helpful and I even managed a few eyeless skulls to help my shopping.

Should I betray the Big Rat? If I do and get the albino rat (for broken toys quest chain) can I return to the alliance with the big rat?

I would love actions that increases making waves. I mean increases making waves. All other social outside of malus actions.

I'm planning a trip to the Tomb Colonies in search of Favours. Any advice for quick Scandal grinds? What are the most reliable source(s) of Favours once I'm there?

My go to is grind for fascinating (ergh...) in the Court using the dress option. Failure results in a scandal increase.

Oh, I don't recommend it, necessarily, but it's always good to keep options in mind. Besides, I'd be most happy to donate my Eyeless Skull to the cause, if I know that's what I'm getting; finding ways to make mischief with it seems like an excellent prerequisite for future Young Stags.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't had much joy with the Docks and favours. Maybe I need to bite the bullet and do terrible things in the Battle.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think if you stick with the big rat, you can trade with him 3 talkative rats for quite a large amount of casing (don't know exactly how much, or if it is a fixed storylet or an opp card). If you stick with the rats, you gain an opp card that gives you 50 bottle of greyfields '82, or 100 whispered hints for free (plus the albino rat companion). I don't know if you can reset the storylet (possibly with fate?)

Consider the expeditions a lucrative sideline. Buy a favor when the Docks card comes up, assist the mayor when her card comes up, and if you really want to speed the process, get a Taciturn Mynah and get favors from its card, too. When you have enough favors, trade them for supplies. When you have enough supplies, launch an expedition. Low stress, low effort, just reaping the rewards as they come, all while pursuing other things.

Also I think the broken toys quest-chain is currently unfinished. Once you pass the level that requires the albino rat, there's nothing more at the moment

Has that feature been fixed then? I thought the second chances preserved the action, as it were, but took a second lot of supplies.

All this talk about expeditions got me wondering, and forgive me if it's been answered already: Regarding the two fate-locked expeditions, can you do each of them more than once? If you can, do you have to pay fate to run the expedition again? And if you do need to pay fate again, is it the same amount of fate each time?

(Since I've hit a stat-boundary on raising docks renown, I figure I should spend those favors on some expedition supplies and go excavating.)

Thank you! Now to go determine if it's worth it to pay the fate for those expeditions (...and possibly pay it again and again).
