Can we please move the three types of Archaeological Notes to the Academic category? It seems like they fit there better and it will help (ever so slightly) unclutter the massive Curiosity dump category.

I think that's a fantastic idea, my curiosity section is huge and such a slog to find things.

Pretty much any idea to thin the Curiosity section gets a point in my book. And this one seems a particularly intuitive one.

I'd like to add in: maybe they can adjust where the titles of each section are, i.e., the title "Curiosity" is right underneath the Contraband items, rather than right on top of the Curiosity ones. There's a space between the title and the items, so it looks off. It would make much more sense to have the Contraband items, then a space, then "Curiosity" right on top of the Curiosity items. Same goes for all the other sections.

1. Correspondence Stones get placed under Wild Words alongside Starstone Demark.
2. Whirring Contraptions and Strong Backed Labor get placed under Goods.
3. Rose Gifts go to Nostalgia.
4. Books of Human Bodies relocated to Rumor or Contraband.
5. Old Bone Skeleton Key to Contraband.
6. Free Evenings go to Advantage.

Now that - is a Grade A nitpick right there, I never realized. Seconded.

I agree with idyl's point about better aligning the headings for the types of items in inventory. I also agree with all of Anne's suggestions, except that I can't see putting "Strong Backed Labor" under "Goods." I really like the idea of putting Rose Gifts (except, presumably, the ones that are equippable creatures) under "Nostalgia."

I'd suggest making strong backed labor a companion, something with fairly insignificant stats if equipped like +1 dangerous.

I'd like to see all potions like items under "medicine" or something like that.

I think there should be a new category (library?) for all books, tomes, published works, volumes of poetry, etc. Perhaps also cards, case notes, and other written word items?

That one's even easy. There already has been a css tweak for that for ages: .tab_content .you_bottom_rhs h3 {clear: both !important; margin: -1em 0 -0.3em !important; padding-top: 1em !important;}

That's exactly what I was looking for. I should have known someone already wrote a line for it.

The black hole that is the Curiosity section has two important functions. First, it keeps other categories clean and understandable. Most categories consist of a single conversion chain plus a few expensive outliers, which makes them aesthetically pleasing and helps newer players figure out item conversion quickly and easily. (If you've ever thought the Mysteries section feels off because its conversion chain went and got drunk on us, you will see what I mean.) Having lots of unrelated items thrown in would obscure these relationships.
Second, items outside the Curiosity category can normally be found in various places and (expensive Relicker souvenirs excluded) have a variety of uses. When your new toy shows up in Curiosity, that's a signal that it either is unique (ex. the Correspondence Stones) or has a very narrow use (ex. Prelapsarian Archaeological Notes).
All that said, the bloated Curiosity section is, in fact, a pain, and even a few small changes would be appreciated. Neither Goods nor Contraband have conversion chains to worry about, and Goods particularly suffers from a lack of clear identity. Moving Mrs. Gebrandt's concoctions there (since they aren't the sort of special item that benefits from the Curiosity tag) is a change I would happily get behind. edited by Siankan on 3/10/2017

so reading this gave an idea! pretty simple idea realy hypothetically any way. what if you could manually make and name your own categories to sort things from curiosity's into? personally id realy enjoy making a category for things that i got out of story lets that dont actually do anything for example.

Unfortunately, while it's simple in theory, implementing that idea would require rewriting the entire inventory system.

It's the only category where the conversion chain forks and does strange things. It's the only category which has two items in the third-tier conversion cycle. Even visually, it sticks out once you're past a certain point, since it has far more items than any similar category. All in all, it feels more like two categories spliced together than anything else. (Not that splicing things together like Dr. Mroeau is out of place in London. Have you seen the Labyrinth?) edited by Siankan on 3/12/2017
