I've gone through the Forein Office, and been told to head to Wolfstaxk Docks to zail to Port Carnelian. But there is no storylet to actually TAKE me there. Do I need ro own a ship before I go?

...sod.

The Empire is bloody cheap, innit? Governor of her only overzee colony, has to buy her own boat?

Considering that in Sunless Sea the Admiralty has to outsurce information gathering to freelance zee-captains... yes. The Empire is VERY cheap.

It's my understanding that most of the Navy's budget is going for ... other purposes.

Hieronymus Drake: Gentleman scholar, big-game hunter, scar-faced aristocrat. Remarkably sane, all things considered.
Tanith Wyrmwood: Longshanks cat-burglar; Bohemian author; now, perhaps, something more. Bubbly, expressive, and affectionate. It’s not only still waters that run deep.
Telemachia Lee: Gentle lady by birth, brawling Docker by choice. Good company in the drunk tank.

The Admiralty p****d their budget away on something that ultimately decided it didn't want to be in the navy.

The light is a glory.

Similar problem: I have a ship, but every time I try to click the destination link revulsion overpowers me and my hands snap back to the ship's wheel.

(Don't worry, everyone, I have precious few disasters left in me. The dumb jokes will stop soon as my ship is tossed to... hm, where the hell was I going anyway?)
