I am (finally) poised to enter the Dilmun Club. Before I do so, however, I have a question: How significant is my choice of sponsor? Is this mostly just window-dressing, or is it going to have a big impact on the storyline? (I've been trying to avoid spoilers - which is why I haven't tried to piece together an answer from the wiki - so vague generalities are quite welcome.)

I don't remember any point where your choice of sponsor mattered. Then again, the storyline is unfinished, so it might be important once it's finishing. I doubt that, though.

It's possible people have forgotten that there is an actual devil in the actual Lord Mayor's office. A devil who is promising to look after people's souls. What is wrong with everybody?

Your choice won't affect the available story outside of slight differences in text. It could affect the rest of the story, whenever that gets added, but iirc there's a note that a way to change sponsors will become available.

The story's been hanging for years, so feel free to just leave it hanging there. Until you start hearing the older players moan about their regret when the storyline do pick up again to make your informed and smart decision
