For a long time I assumed that you could only get a tattoo one time at the feast of the rose. Then I read things about getting two tattoos, noman tattoos, special gant noman tattoos separate from regular noman tattoos, resetting your tattoos... I'm a little confused right now.

How do tattoos work? Can you only have 1? Or 2? If it's the latter, do they both provide a benefit?

Can I change my tattoos later, if I later become eligible for different ones I like more? For instance, can I pick up tattoos this year, but swap one out for a noman tattoo next year when I'm ready to take the challenge?

You can pick up one a year, and a special noman tattoo is gained by having your noman survive until the feast.

Important note: this all hinges on the fact that nothing changes drastically this year. I don't expect it will, but the possibility is there!

To expand, if you have no tattoos, you'll be able to get one this year, and only one. The year after you get your first tattoo, you'll be able to get a second, and two is the current max. All tattoos give you a point in either Bizarre or Dreaded. The regular Noman tattoo is a hard one to obtain, but is counted as a normal tattoo (i.e. you may have it and one other). If, however, you qualify for the Noman tattoo (done by keeping the poor snowy fellow alive from now-ish until the tattoo parlour opens in February) and you already have the maximum of two tattoos then you are able to get a third, purely cosmetic tattoo of the Noman to commemorate your achievement. This tattoo has no stats.

You are only able to get rid of a tattoo that you've committed to your skin by paying Fate in the Parlour, so choose carefully.

Also: you can choose to have no tattoo, in which case you'll get a permanent point of Respectable, but can't then choose a tattoo the following year (unless by paying Fate to undo your decision).

A few further potentially notable items: Most of the tattoos other than the Noman have known, simple requirements.

However, it's not known how to get the Great Work Tattoo as it requires a quality called "The Sultan's Dream" with unknown source.

Additionally, unless I'm mistaken nobody has yet gotten all candles but waited until the Feast of the Exceptional Rose in order to get a certain name tattooed onto their skin.

Wiwo. Almost certainly not a squid in a cunningly tailored suit. Surely.

Care for some cider? Here's how to ask me for some. Strange pranks strongly preferred.

Care to pet a Heptagoat? Too bad. It doesn't do anything (probably).

I'm a Correspondent and would be delighted to lecture at your orphanage.

To the best of my knowledge, the Sultan's Dream is content that was planned and never written (perhaps it was planned by a writer who is no longer with the company - I know there is some content that has suffered such a fate). As such I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get.

I am very interested to see if the Seeking tattoo option will still exist this year, however!

To the best of my knowledge, it will not be possible, or have ever been possible, until the 2017 feast.

So even if someone has prepared and is waiting, they cannot complete it until this febuary.

I believe teaspoon has prepared and is waiting. May we all wish them luck.

Thanks. Huh, well I guess my seeking alt has a new goal. A reckoning will have to be postponed until 2018.

Does leaving your skin blank result in a permanently lower BDR? Just 1 point of respectable instead of 2 bizarre/dreaded?

As for resetting tattoos, can you select which ones to get rid of, if you want to keep one but not the other? Or keep the gant noman tattoo, while resetting the normal ones?

Leaving your skin blank does result in a lower BDR. Pretty sure removing tattoos gets rid of both, but I'm not sure if the gant tattoo is effected.

Yes, choosing the Respectable option locks at +1R instead of +2B/D from the two tattoos, and you'd need to pay Fate to "reset" your tattoos to get rid of it. The Fatewipe gets rid of both tattoos (you can't pick and choose), but it does not wipe the Gant Noman tattoo.

It's worth bearing the following in mind:

Tattoos

As time has gone on, the technical side of receiving a tattoo has become very complex. We will be reviewing this content before the Christmas season begins again.

And also this:

That is happening, yes.

(I'm actually holding off my final go at Winking Island until I've despatched this Noman, but I will possess all the candles by the Feast. Oh yes. A reckoning shall be postponed that far and no farther.)

I guess I'll qualify as well.

Now that I've sacrificed a Noman to get St Cerise, there's nothing to stop me from getting candles F and G (already had candles A, B, D, and E, and SMEN is already at 75). I'll do that immediately after my current Noman expires.

Not that I believe that there's any chance to get that tattoo (according to both Alexis and to the Queen of Ink). The option will probably not be there, or just marked as Impossible. We'll see.
