Last time I visited the forum to ask/vent about the extreme rarity of Mr Sacks cards in my game, and got the advice from fellow players that they would start appearing as storylets if I fall behind. (They didn't so far, apparently being 11 days behind is not far behind enough.) As a progress report, now on 10 January, playing on average maybe 1-2 stacks a day since 25 December I'm still only on Day 5 of the Mr Sacks storyline. The cards appear once maybe every 3-4 days. The 'Visit Penstock's Wicket' storylet says that it would become unavailable "in late January". When will this exactly happen? I want to finish that storyline, but with this speed it might take me until late February...

@kazerniel: The cards haven't been pinned yet for anyone, maybe they won't be this year, who knows. But the Wicket stays open until the 30th or 31st, so you should still be able to finish! You're just being very unlucky so far (and you're not the only one).

I don't think there been any confirmation that the cards will become storylets. It's a possibility, and this is something they FBG have done in the past for seasonal content, but no guarantees.

In fact, I can't remember 100% if this was the case last year.

The Day 1 card definitely became a storylet last year towards the end of the season, but this year this was the case from the start.

So on a lark I sold my soul for the What Profit cars, as a posi. Didn't expect the Fabulous Diamond to be so...profitable. I notice it allows you to chance breaking it into 25 Magnificent Diamonds though, with some risk. Echoes wise it's the same, so unless one is going for a Zub (I'm not, already have a majestic pleasure yacht), is there any reason to do this? What's the potential failure for it?

Its just for getting magnificent diamonds quickly. There doesn't actually seem to be a failure.

Yeah, I was really unlucky on one of my accounts with Sacks too. I probably went through 4-5 stacks of 6 cards each every day, and just gained access to the wicket today. I'm a little annoyed, because this means it's harder for me to get a noman now, basically just because the RNG hates me. Unfortunately there's just not much we can do about it. Hope you get some luck, because it really sounds like need it!

Is it currently possible to go from Hedonist 10 to 12? I don't mind spending fate since it would be 'in character', but from what I can see all options are either capped at 10, or require 12 (e.g. Ornate Typewriter, Counterfeit Head of John the Baptist) in the first place?

Its still possible. I believe the fate locked croquet option in "an intimate of devils" works, as does "The provost" option from the university (If you haven't started the murder storyline)

Unfortunately as a loyal servant of Hell I've already completed and sold my soul (An Intimate of Devils: 20) and I've finished the 'Featuring in the Tales of the University' (40) set as well. upset

question: if you sell your soul at Christmas on the brass embassy lodging card, and if you buy your soul back using fate, will the devils return to woo you some more? I have the understanding that they only stop if you give them your soul specifically.

Correct. The thing that stops them from sieging you is the 'Intimate Of Devils' quality at 20, which you won't get this way.

Out of general curiosity, are parabolan kittens still receivable up NORTH? And does/did it work in the other direction? Can NORTHerners send kittens back?

  • I believe we can still send them kittens, as the mechanics haven't changed. However, in their location, inventory items have red borders so they cannot send them back.

I understand that this is 1) a complete noob question, and 2) subject to both subjectivity and way too much complexity to adequately distill to a simple answer, but...

I'm a hoarder. I collect everything. And both Sunless Sea and my time so far in London has convinced me of the rightness of this position. However, if I wanted to sell a few less useful items, is there something that's just not very useful? Something "safe" to sell?

Maybe a better way to phrase this: what kinds of things do you other Citizens sell?

Let's see! You have Cryptic clue which are best converted at the Bazaar street sides for extra profit due to the rare success (~2EPA), wines are a bit nasty to grind so it's best to keep them all if you'd like to get some Tear (for MB, Crimson Book, resources for Noman, wine card for extra profit), Souls if you ever consider Fate locked Soul Trade, Primordial Shriek if you have a lot are fastest way to get Correspondence Plaque for Fidgeting Writer or SotC along side Maniac's Prayer, Glim can be converted to Stolen Kisses via the Soft-Hearted Widow which gives some MW, but you can also converted the Kisses for more MW, Proscribed Material from Calling Favours in the Flit can again be upconverted for nice MW and I think this covers the cheap ones.
With the conversion of Proscribed Material you gain 0.5E items which can be converted via a chain to the same item again; 50 Scraps for 51 Memories, 50 Memories to Souls, etc. and these items can be used to grind MW. Think it's about 1.6 MW/AP on average and you gain 0.5 E as well.

    Hope this helps!

A quick question for anyone who wouldn't mind informing me; I suspect I know the answer but will the Cave of the Nadir still reduce a maxed stat? And if so, what effect does that have on things like Patronage?

Yes it reduces your stats. If you are a patron you need to have the relevant stat at 200, with gear, to send a lesson. So it isn't really a problem.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Ah, I see. If the gear counts towards maintaining Patron status I will have little to worry about. Thank you!

I can confirm that the cards became storylets last year(and I hope they do this year as well since it's a bit unfair that they didn't already).
