The Severe Bluejacket is ready to cross the bar.
The Season of Wrecks has finished. If you played Where You and I Must Go, Our Lady of Pyres, and The Final Curtain, you will have gained an item unique to each tale. You can trade in these items to unlock a short tale suffused with lore and adorned with an alluring reward.
This option opens today, and will remain permanently, so there is no need to trade in your items by any deadline.
The story can be found anywhere in London through The Season of Wrecks: His Time Has Come.

This was great - I know having all three stories share a theme/thread means that people disinterested in that thread might care less, but to have the mysteries of the Bluejacket's life slowly unfold over four months has been great, and this turn-in was a lovely little ending with an extremely difficult and touching choice.
This season has been my favourite so far!

I feel it is a bit bizarre to call this an “Item Trade-In” rather than a “Conclusion”. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m here for the story.

Wow, that was a good one. Had to think a while between the options, each of them in turn - one I discarded instantly, the other three I hesitated between each in turn...and those two options...
In the end, after trying to make things right with Harris, with the cult showdown, with the first mate, and with the factions of Parabola (well, er...three out of four ain't bad I suppose right?), I sent the Last Emissary on his way to the zee.
As Hotshot, here's my reasoning: He willingly sacrificed his humanity to undertake this mission. The Widow believed him lost at sea - and she has already gone through the grieving process and come out the other end (having been a lodger under her and contributed so much glim to her charity, she's not miserable). It would be cruel to him to deny his agency especially for such a revolutionary and diplomatic mission, and it would be cruel to her to re-open old wounds and expose her to memories whose reality and yet inability to fix could well be too much to cope. Godspeed, Emissary. Godspeed.
I have the Rubbery option echoed on my alt (link below), and breaking the needle does nothing mechanically but lock you out of the sending to zee and Widow endings, because you don't have the knowledge of his identity.

Oh, the Soft Hearted Widow is the Emissary's widow?! That makes her character so much sadder. I'll always give her a generous donation when her card pops up.
I ended up choosing the Rubbery option and the text was kind of heart-breaking. I'm happy with that choice, though it was so difficult to decide. The reward was both nice and appropriate.
This season has been a fascinating one with a really interesting arc. I didn't love the installment with the Iconoclast, but I did like how she tied into the larger picture. Thanks for the great season, FB! edited by Myrto on 12/21/2016

Not my favourite bonus story, but I may be biased as - overall - it was my least favourite season . . . that being said; I totally adored the final choice, as all were so poignant and given equal worth, in terms of that they catered to every possible desire of the player and character, while all being equally valid . . .
It was a difficult decision to make, and I'm curious what other options would have brought, but it was good closure and a decent reward.

Just thinking about it... now what exactly would the Lady do anyway? Seems to me her options boil down to not much else than the other three *I* already could have taken off her hands, right? Without the added unnecessary heartbreak, of course. Glad to have been of service, ma'am. Although you, of course, wouldn't have the slightest idea about it. But somehow I don't believe you'd have planned on building an aquarium in your basement... or bedroom.
And to each their own, I say. It's a shame someone prepared to make such a sacrifice gets thwarted by the usual military stiffbeards putting material over mind again. Hopefully I've corrected that old fool's error and let a belated destiny take it's course. Better late than never.

I went with my initial, gut reaction--but only after a day of deliberating and weighing the options in my all-too-rational mind.
I have echoed the option, which makes use of a most interestingly-named projectile.
Don't put it in your pocket. It's your lucky bullet. Where do you want me to put it? Anywhere not in your pocket. Or it'll get mixed in with the others and become just a bullet. Which it is.

I absolutely loved this Season, particularly Where You and I Must Go and this final story. I always tried to do what I thought best, an especially difficult task for Our Lady of Pyres and The Final Curtain, and I am happy to see it play out as it did.
I decided to reveal the survival of Harris, sabotage both the dangerous New Sequencers and self-destructive animists (or whatever they called themselves) in order to bring the Brazen Iconoclast back to London, spare the first mate (thereby consigning him to a half-life of unthinking terror), and use the Heart-Catcher’s own power to return it to Parabola. Finally since the Last Emissary already sacrificed himself willingly in order to open relations with the Flukes, and bringing the Soft-Hearted Widow into it would only throw salt (no pun intended) on the wound after all this time, I decided to honor the Emissary’s decision and release him to fulfill his duty.
Some people care about the material rewards from Exceptional Stories, but to be honest I could hardly care less (though I do like unique gear). For those interested due to the inherent stories such results can tell, my final choice granted an Elemental Secret.
I went for the Widow option myself. I couldn't communicate with...him, to know what he wanted, but I know the Widow, and it seemed to me she'd appreciate having final closure on her relationship with him. Judging by the text for that option, I think I was right about that. I'm happy about the resolution overall, and I feel that I know more about the Soft Hearted Widow than I previously did.

I'm curious, did anyone, in-character or out, resent the Bluejacket for putting off this decision for so long and leaving it entirely to us to cleanup? Because I was kind of appalled by his cowardice... How long was that poor creature shut away in that room?!

Loved this conclusion. The frame story for these exceptionals made the season feel much more cohesive, and the conclusion much more significant, since it tied into the gradually unfolding backstory of the season itself.

I've been waiting eagerly. A good ending, though I wonder what the wife and butler would've said at the deathbed, and if different ending for stories lead to a different ending for the Bluejacket.
As for the Emissary. I loved that part. Good way to tie up the loose ends. If anyone wants to see the Wife ending I've echoed it (though seems most of this thread's participants also echoed it), and I'd appreciate a message if anyone did other endings.
But the best part? This was the final thing I wanted to finish before heading North. Now for that too.

Oh my God, for what was probably the first time, I had no idea what to do. I never have actually weighed many of the moral quandaries of Fallen London, but this decision was stellar. I was freaking out wondering just what I should do. Bravo Failbetter
I ultimately made the merciful choice and put the bullet to good use. It's better for the widow to think that her husband died at sea than to see what he has become. I also got a dreadful surmise.
edited by surreyjack on 12/21/2016

So, how many destinations does the Bluejacket have? Pasta and I already have the tomb-colonies and the Gant Pole. Does anyone have the result of Chat with the Iconoclast? Could you PM me with that? Thank you! And, I've seen different story-results for the Widow option. So it seems that whether it's better for them to reunion is uncertain. Any uncertainty in other options?

All the reward info in one place, if I have everything right:
- Bullet: Dreadful Surmise
- Rubbery: Fecund Amber
- Zee: Elemental Secret
- Widow: Dreadful Surmise
Also, there were a few differences depending on choices in stories. If the Bluejacket knows where to find RFH, you may speak to him; otherwise you may speak to the wife. (I'm not sure what happens if the Bluejacket only knows he lives.) If the Iconoclast is in London, you may speak to her; otherwise you may speak to the Butler. If the Bluejacket believes the first mate is dead, you may speak to him and he'll mention it. Unlike the other options, there's no second option visible but locked. If you spared the first mate and said so, did you have an option to speak to the Bluejacket?
The final option in Breakwater House seems to vary by how well you fulfilled the Bluejacket's wishes. Each story gave 5 or 10 of Settling the Bluejacket's Affairs, with 10 indicating you tried to fulfill his request as well as possible. My final option was unlocked with Settling 25+ and he mentioned going to the Tomb-Colonies. What happened with lower values of Settling?
