It always gets quiet when it snows, no matter what the flavour. At least, we hope it does, because if we hear one more d____ed urchin caroling...
Starting at noon GMT today, Time, the Healer will bring ‘snow’ to doorsteps across London. You’ll need to dig your door out, or find someone to lend a hand or tentacle to the task.
Fate can also be used to employ a certain cowled assistant – and earn unique seasonal Home Comfort items!
Acquiring pails of this 'snow' and learning what you can about it will unlock a selection of seasonal benefits at the end of the season, when Penstock’s Wicket opens on the 6th of January.
Note: The Snowbound effect will remain constant this year until sometime shortly after 6th January 2017.
A GIFT FROM MR SACKS The urchins have purloined the terrible sack of Mr Sacks once again! You may draw a gift from it (or send one to a friend) – for a price, of course.
Buy a lucky dip in Mr Sacks’ sack for yourself, or send a lucky dip draw to another player! Begin with Explore the Festive Season, available throughout London.
SEASONAL STORIES Closer to Christmas day, a new festive premium story will be available for purchase featuring everyone's favourite Mayor of London and the Empress' Shadow! We will also be making The Gift, last year’s story, available again shortly after!
OTHER FESTIVITIES There are still more goodies to be found in the Fallen London Advent Calendar, too! Each window is around for just a few days, so be certain to check back regularly to receive all of the various treats.
Since it tis the season, we also encourage you to reach out to new players with a lovely Christmas card and a friendly greeting. Find new friends on Twitter (using #flcards), Reddit, Facebook, Tumblr or here on the forums!
Look for Explore the Festive Season throughout London to take part in the seasonal fun!

This is already a lot more pleasant than heavy snowfall in real life, although I can't help thinking about the implications of the Brass Embassy being snowed in. I say, what's the use of goat-demons if they won't drag a b____y plow? edited by aegisaglow on 12/12/2016

I couldn't make sense of this "Empress' Shadow" at first, but re-reading The Gift I realized
it's Vicky, her eldest daughter who stayed on the Surface!
That's going to be interesting. Seems like this story will be kind of a sequel to The Gift, then.

I'm wondering why I haven't heard people recommend that option before, but it does seem better. Just switch to using a soul if you fail.
Success: Eat, monocle, monocle. Failure: Eat, monocle, soul, monocle.

Can someone explain the difference between "The Gift" and "The Gift?" As in "The Gift" on the fate page and "The Gift" mentioned in the OP. I don't remember this last year.

Ah, you're right . . .
No snow for myself, either.
I'm curious about this, because I don't think FBG would let you lose out on snow, just for choosing that fate-locked branch . . . have other players received any snow yet (aside from the calendar)? I'm wondering - well, hoping - it just isn't available yet? This is how SNOWBOUND always worked - if you let the hooded figure help you shovel Snow, then it gets to keep the Pail and you get the Robe. If you shovel the snow yourself, you get to keep the pail.

Not quite! I think FBG added this vague date to tell that everyone would get 5 SNOWBOUND! events. Probably at 12:00 GMT, but probably some people who were visited few moments after the first snow weren't able to clear the path right away. Absintheuse wrote:

You can buy the lodgings after you complete the 12 days of mr sacks storyline (not yet out). And no, you don't need super high stats.

Snowbound appeared independent of TtH. (Both my main and my alt got Snowbound at noon GMT, but my alt's TtH was half an hour later so he got to shovel his driveway twice.)

Maybe for free this time? Or discounted? It's confusing alright!

Interestingly, you can reach your lodgings without clearing the snow: Going into the Exceptional Season storylet and returning to your study will place you within the study of your own Lodgings, and subsequently leaving your study places you inside your lodgings. This, of course, does not get rid of the snow, but it is a tricksy way to get to your lodgings if you have neither fate, actions, or wealth to spare.

I noticed my option to accept help required The Airs of London to be 51+, but I'm not sure if having an Airs below that would hide the storylet or just change the text. It changes the text. I have just received my second Snowbound (due to a ridiculously well-timed TtH), and chosen to have a Master clear the way both times, once with airs 27 and one with 68.
The airs determine which Master clears the 'snow'. At airs 1-50 it is Mr. Spices, at 51-100 it is Mr. Pages. I'd say eat it if you can take the wounds (and as you'll probably have cards you can send, hopefully you can) as this gives 1-2 levels on success, but one even on a fail. Success saves you a pail, and you can just use a soul if you fail. Then use your monocle twice to lvl 8 and wait for Mr Sacks. Btw, it doesn't tell you what lvl you are at when you gain, but you can check on your 'myself' tab or scrapbook.
Edit: don't use this method if you have more than ToL 1 though, as it caps out at 2 on a failure 3 on a success. edited by Amsfield on 12/13/2016 Edit 2: Apparently you're not guaranteed 2 levels on success. Not sure what the odds are but you'll get either 1 or 2 levels. edited by Amsfield on 12/13/2016

Thanks for the guide, all of you who contributed to it! Perhaps it was said on other pages in this post, but I wanted to correct (i think) the amount of Pails of Snow needed: Instead of 4 Pails to reach level 8 ToL, as said above, you can have a good run at 2 pails: 1. Wait until having 1 ToL and 2 Pails (1 ToL through the Advent or at the first day of Mr. Sacks. We already got 1 Pail today) 2. Do not linger on until the second ToL arrives but use the Monocle twice right away - reaching 7 ToL. Thus, using only 2 Pails. 3. Mr sacks will give another 4 ToL (5 if doctor or notaries) - so thats 11 (12) ToL. 4. Buy the Bazaar 5 lodging with 9 ToL - left with 2 ToL 5. Twice the Monocle - 8 ToL (lost 2 Pails of Snow) 6. Buy Beth-Lehem's Hotel with 8 ToL. Point being - need not spend 4 Pails but only 2 for the first prize. Another 2 for the second prize. Am I correct or got the calculations wrong?
