For a long time I thought that the only way to obtain favors: rubbery men was through the slime and amber opportunity card. There's a long grind in Flute Street, but that's not available for most and is only really worth it if you're focusing exclusively on grinding favors. I just recently realized that the polite invitation card can provide favors as well.

The tentacled entrepreneur provides 1 favor when you hit talk of the town 2 and play the "is confused by the cutlery" option. He also has a 50% chance to provide another one at talk of the town 5 if you choose the "is heading hopefully in your direction" card provided that you don't have many favors (I've forgotten the cutoff). The chance to draw the tentacled entrepreneur is 1 in 7 so he's not hard to find; especially if you have a 5 card lodging. It's also helpful to wait to play the polite invitation card when you have 3 cards in your opportunity deck as the number of cards will double when you reach the party.

I know many players may have already discovered this, but I feel that its worth mentioning for those of us who overlooked it. Good luck to all on your rubbery grind!

I can vouch for this if you are gunning for Rubbery favors but don't have access to Flute Street. It is a bit of detour if are busy with anything else though, and can drain most of your available opportunity cards.

I found it more than enough!
Grinding Renown is supposed to be a long trip. After the conversion I had 1-2 Renown and got to level 30 shortly after the elections. Only after that point I stared using both options, but weren't that many. Took it real slow afterwards as I don't have access to Flute Street, but I got to Renown 40.
Yes, it does take long, but it was nice to see bits by bits how your progress got you closer to your desired achievement!

You also can earn a docks favor on a rare success at time remaining 3 by sticking to something stately during the last dance.

If you go in with 3 cards to draw, you'll have 6. If you leave with 3 cards to draw, you'll have 6.

I don't know the proper number for EFs but you can get some of your cards back in the same way.

Exceptional Friends have a deck limit of 10, so entering and leaving with 5 is ideal.

Additional notes on this technique: At the very beginning of the party, before you have played any arrival options, there are only five possible cards that can be drawn. This means that if you have a five card lodging, you are guaranteed to get one of each of the guest cards.

Personally, I tend to skip the 50/50 option early on to make sure I have the card for the guaranteed pick up later. This also lets me arrive fashionably late and use the Watchful Contrarian to move through the party more quickly (though that passes up the chance for a Docks favor on a rare success during the last dance). If you move through the party efficiently in that fashion, it's even fairly profitable, depending on how much value you assign to that Rubbery Favour.

If I recall correctly, you can have a maximum of 7 Rubbery Favors at any one time. 7 is the number, it seems.

7 is the maximum possible amount for any type of Favour.

From my experience the cutoff on the first option is less then seven favors, the wiki doesn't specify what the number is. Next time I get the message I'll update the wiki accordingly.

It can definitely get you a Favour, up to 7.
It's just that for the first option it's a 50% chance, so you might get no Favour if you're unlucky.

(7 is the cap on any type of Favour, so the wiki doesn't repeat this anytime any Favour is gained anywhere in the game).

EDIT: I've updated the wiki so that it automatically lists the hard cap of 7 for any Favour gain.
