I was just wondering if there's any way to mark topics as read. I'm getting tired of seeing the number of unread topics growing bigger and bigger.

No, unfortunately not. At some apparently random point, they reduce down to one or two again. (Or you could comment on each thread, I suppose. That makes them go away.)
The quirks of the forum site (only five results for searches, anyone?) give rise to many a complaint.
