Accessing a new acquaintances profile

Someone drops me a calling card.
I'd like to be able to ask around, inquire about their character, pump the rumor mill as it were, to see if they should be someone whose acquaintance I would like to make.
Really I just want to see their profile. Not to judge if I'm going to accept, because I'm going to, but just to see what they're up to. Why does it seem unnecessarily hard to do so? So far I've only figured out that I can go to my profile, modify the URL with their username, and then get there. There has to be an easier way, but I can't seem to find it.
