Can I join the list of "terribly excited and looking forward to this" at least? Please?

It's my first Hallowmas and I was hoping to follow the lead of those more experienced - but if it's all new and different, all I can do is just mill around nervously and drop things on the floor in expectation!

Looking forwards to this... also worried about the fact that I might not be able to get a dreadful surmise- I want to feed lacre to boars, and I can't do that without a new or non-1-time surmise source.

But oh well, I knew I might not be able to replace it when I sold it, and it's no huge loss.

While I am a little sad about the Betrayers' Club not being needed anymore (I'll keep an eye out just in case), I'm definitely excited to see what's in store for the new Hallowmas.

Please do not send SMEN, cat boxes, or Affluent Reporter requests. All other social actions are welcome.

Are you a Scarlet Saint? Send a message my way to be added to the list.

Oh no, the Hallowmas nostalgia is starting to kick in. Even if there’s no mechanical reason to do so, I loved Hallowmas as the season of mass networking between players.

I am sorely tempted to set up shop and take over Caligula’s Coffee for a Hallowmas party for me and 300 of my closest friends. It would be totally unrelated to anything official or any specific game mechanic, just a big mixer party for folks to meet each other. Aaaa someone talk me out of this, talk me down from the ledge of wild parties and endless inboxes full of kind messages from new friends. I am ~this close~ to throwing a huge coffee party and I know I shouldn’t. But my longing…
oh no, my will to resist is fading. oh no oh noooooooooooooo h e l p
Gonen is probably right, but I'm wild with curiosity to see how you could devise a TOTALLY different mechanic...

Wasn't around last year's Hallowmas, but this thread got me hyped for this year's!
In the meantime, can someone post a small brief what was with the networking, social actions and sheets? smile

Cheers!

Short summary?

Everyone could request confessions from other people. this required 3 actions and that that person had not given a confession to them yet. A POSI could use two types of confessions indefinitely, while a non-POSI had easier options that could only get 6 confessions.

If Someone asked for a confession from you, you could decline (a bit rude, but...) or accept. You needed a certain level of menace to get and to accept confession requests (3 in each associated menace)- and without that level of menace, you'd get told you didn't have the required stats. Accepting a confession would cure menaces (-10 cp in each associated menace), and give you 1 spirit of hallowmas.

A POSI could turn in a confession properly for 4 spirit, or betray and get more material rewards, but only two spirit. People left unbetrayed could be betrayed next year, or the secret buried again.
{there was also a less obvious non-betrayal that only gave 2 spirit, but that doesn't matter.}

So Nitebrite set up this massive networking thread so everyone could ask everyone else for confessions much more easily, and everyone was deliberately grinding menaces and doing this en-masse. This makes no sense from a narative perspective, and it wasn't exactly the most fun way to do things, so it's not a suprise they changed it.

{There were also a few standardized events, but the big thing was this. also: http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Visitors_at_Hallowmas and (this hub page has last year's newly added npc confessions.[1]) http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Hallowmas}

At the end of the season, you would get rewards from mr. huffman, who's writing up the hallowmas edition. it'll open a new option on one's public.

[1]{Throughout the last week or so of the season, you could ask six npcs for a confession (one a day, IIRC)- mostly ones from sunless sea, though there was an interesting one from the bishop of southwark. then, once all six had been released, you could keep or betray their trust. Betrayal would give 5 echoes and 2 spirit of hallowmas, while keeping the secret would give 2.5 echoes and 4 spirit of hallowmas. Hopefully there'll be something like that in the new one, the lore was neat!}

Now that you have written it all down, it sounds so difficult - but it was such great fun, I loved it! I am definitely looking forward to seeing what new mechanics FBG has come up with, but a part of me will always miss last year's spreadsheets.

To be clear- when I say "wasn't the most fun way to do things", I mean in comparison to other possible alternatives, not that it had a negative fun level. And yeah, it was fun- didn't change that if you did a perfect balance of sending and receiving you had to spend 300 actions sending requests, 100+{time to grind two menaces back to 3}*100 actions, and then spend another 100 actions turning them all in, if you wanted to get the top rewards. It was a more action-intensive event than, say, the feast of the rose, in other words.

I wound up meeting, on another forum, someone who I turned out to have connected with during last year's Hallowmas. I'll kinda miss the spreadsheet, yeah, but I'm totally ok with it being less work. smile

Yes, it was some work, and I was looking forward to being more organized this year with my invitations/betrayals/secrets. I really enjoyed the teamwork of the holiday, and, while I didn't reach 500 spirit with any of my characters, I really had fun with the level I reached. I also made contact with a lot of players, which was a really cool side effect of Nitebrite's massive effort.
