Do I get the Exceptional Hat that will be adequate for the purpose, or shall I spring for the more expensive BDR hats - and if so, a tub or a face?
The Exceptional Hat can be exchanged for a different non-hat item in Polythreme. So you could buy an exceptional hat to use for now, and replace it with a more expensive hat later after you lose it, if you haven't done that yet. edited by Harlocke on 8/31/2016

With Airs at 90+, A Dreamless Sleep in your lodgings gives you -7 Wounds and -2 Nightmares for 3 actions. Also sets your Airs to 0, in case you need to confound some constables.

sosisqua: The Decommissioned Steamer card is most definitely still around; I drew it today in fact. (And I have every lodging, so no issues there.)

Those willing to spend Fate may want the Brass Embassy room and Decommissioned Steamer. The rest are only useful to anyone who wants a lot of less efficient MW options and small scrap options in their deck for a very long time. I would debate that. while your list is mostly correct, two lodgings have the potential to be useful in the future, but are cheap enough to wait until then. -snip-
So in other words, my list was perfectly fine outside of possible future changes and a potential grind that would probably take years before it could be cashed in fully? :P

Certain chapel in the University - as far as I know, the only semi-reliable way to obtain those. As a non-reliable - Nadir cards.

That would be upconverting ToT either from Hunter's Keep (not sure about EPA on this one, but saw an estimate of 1.5 recently) or from heists in the Flit (which is also the goto method for Fidgeting Writer). Personally, I'd go with the latter as you can also get a fair amount of cards that give cryptic clues, as well as the "dream of dark waters" card if you're seeking. edited by Talkes on 9/2/2016

Though slower, I'm pretty sure it's more efficient overall to feed Tales of Terror!! into the Fidgeting Writer and cash out at whichever step for Enigmas than it is to upconvert them and dump Incanabula into the Truthbreaker Turbine.

I've been trying to raise my Renown: Criminals to 50, but though I'm at 200 Shadowy base and have good gear (+52) I'm stuck at Renown 34. Am I going to be stuck waiting for a Shadowy Mood a couple dozen times even if I shell out for all the Fate-locked items and changing to a Shadowy Destiny? The Shadowy requirement for increasing Renown is (6 x Renown). With a Shadowy of 252 (with gear) you should be able to raise Renown up to 43. (i.e. the option should still be unlocked for you at Renown 42). No reason to be stuck at 34.

Did I miss an announcement/rumor about the Revolutionaries trade-in? Probably it won't be much, but it's my first!

I am waiting for that one, too, but so far, nothing had come up! I remember seeing the topic on forums for the previous one, so they will probably put one for Revolutionaries, too

Is there anywhere with lore/story spoilers for the ambitions?
I ask simply as my main and alt both chose ambitions other than "Nemesis", and I really don't want to lose my progress (especially on my main, as they had to go through one heck of a grind), but I hear there's some good Masters information on "Nemesis"? As it isn't fate-locked, I'm sure spoilers are allowed, but - aside from a general gist of the overall plot - I seem to be unable to find much :-S

Do you think you'll ever try another profession? That could be one reason to hold on to your hat. Err. Tub. Foam. Whatever.

I have to admit it seems unlikely that I'll allow my Abs to take up another profession. However, I suppose even that chance is enough to hang onto the "hat".
After all, it's not going to be worth anything less -- or more -- sitting in my inventory than sold for echoes. (in the end it's likely to turn into goat-fodder anyway, I guess)
Thanks for the perspective Parelle.

What are the best easily-repeatable menace cures? Ideally storylet-based, "best" defined as highest reduction per action, or highest reduction plus profit per action relative to grinds (see below). I have most Fate-locked things so if any of those are good for menaces (except CVR, I'm a spirifer), that would be good to know.
I did the math already for Suspicion and the best I could find was Confounding the Constables from Opportunism in Spite with Airs up to 25. "A riskier option: hide in a rookery" is -4 CP Suspicion, but "A man with a past" is -3 CP and 0.44 E of items, making the latter better EPA-wise given grinds under 1.76 EPA.

Thank you, that helps wonders
I do wish we could pursue more than one ambition, particularly as they aren't currently finished, which makes it difficult to move onto another without losing progress . . . still, this will sate my curiosity for a while, hopefully

Would i get an increased production of Scraps if i'd buy all the lodgings or, more importantly, will i see the card from one home whilst residing in another? I know it works with Townhouse but how about others? Buying additional lodgings does mean more cards giving out scraps, but most of the lodgings cards are decidedly useless otherwise. (All lodgings have at least one option giving scraps, and most have an option giving Making Waves. Remote Addresses have no cards.) Since there's currently no way to sell (and only one way to dispose of) lodgings, if you are or will be concerned about trimming your deck of unprofitable cards, the general recommendation is to not buy them all. Which lodgings might be considered good and why:
- Premises at the Bazaar: Twice as common as Standard cards. Has a difficult and profitable Persuasive challenge unlocked with 100 echoes, on success giving two echoes and four scraps. On failure costs two echoes.
- Reservation at the Royal Bethlehem Hotel: Twice as common as Standard. Has a high Watchful challenge for three scraps. Spirifers have a difficult and profitable Shadowy challenge giving Souls.
- Guest Room at the Brass Embassy: Twice as common as Standard. Has a high Watchful challenge for three scraps. Those with the five-card upgrade can purchase two companions with Fate, the cheapest of several options.
- Handsome Townhouse: Twice as common as Standard. Has an option for two scraps. Allows creation of a Salon or Orphanage as a PoSI.
- Decommissioned Steamer: Has an option for two scraps. All following lodgings have a one-scrap option. Has a Fate-locked option with neat lore and a small material reward.
- Rooftop Shack: Has a challenge using Acquaintance: a Repentant Forger, giving three echoes of wine on success (guaranteed at max Acquaintance)
- Lair in the Marshes: Has a second scrap option for one scrap and 30 CP of Connected: Society.
- Cottage by the Observatory: Nothing much of interest.
- Rooms above a Bookshop: Nothing at all of interest, including the Soul Trade-related option.
- Rooms above a Gambling Den: Has a particularly cheap and unpredictable option for Making Waves.
- Smoky Flophouse Dormitory: Has an option giving Connected: Revolutionaries and sometimes a Criminal Favour.
- Half-Abandoned Mansion: I'm including this for completeness. This lodging cannot be purchased from the Bazaar; it must be obtained through playing Knife & Candle, which is currently on hiatus. Has a Dangerous challenge for three scraps. Has a difficult and profitable Dangerous challenge for two Mourning Candles.
In conclusion, Bazaar Premises, Handsome Townhouse, and Rooftop Shack lodgings are worth getting for everyone. The Royal Beth is great for Spirifers. The Half-Abandoned Mansion is great for anyone inclined to play enough K&C, assuming it will be obtainable once more when that returns. Those willing to spend Fate may want the Brass Embassy room and Decommissioned Steamer. The rest are only useful to anyone who wants a lot of less efficient MW options and small scrap options in their deck for a very long time.
