Hello. I am in the Mr Eaten questline, fairly early, from what I've read, and have a question about it. I 1st found Fallen Londen through TvTropes, and have read about it for minor tips. and have read about it for minor tips.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/VideoGame/FallenLondon?from=VideoGame.EchoBazaar

I also read this, under the Awsome tab:

"
  • Bjorntfh becoming the first player to complete the Seeking Mr Eaten quest. They completely ruined their character in the process to the point of it becoming ultimately unplayable for good, but they will be forever remembered for being the first Seeker to successfully go NORTH.

"

And also found this in some other trope:

(i.e. the image is from Bjorntfh's account, apparently at NORTH. )

My question is, is this Bjorntfh's account really "unplayable"? As it is, most of the other things I've read in tvtropes are enough to want to back out of the SMEN questline. Does anyone know if it is true?

ps- if this is in the wrong section, please let me know. I couldn't quite tell. Thanks!

Yes, upon finishing Mr Eaten, the account becomes truly unplayable. You have the option to turn back at the very last moment though!

Thanks for the answer, but, if you have to give up all the access to all the stuff I've read in various tropes, it might not be worth it to even start.

It is definitely best regarded as endgame content!

Social Actions: send them to Kade Carrion (she/her; no Tournament of Lilies, please). an_ocelot has gone NORTH and cannot benefit from social actions!

You don't need to worry about losing access to your stuff--progressing through SMEN will destroy all of it anways! Big Grin

Seriously, though. SMEN is fundamentally about your character going to extreme lengths to destroy themself. If you have any hesitation whatsoever about seeking, then it is definitely NOT something you should do.

Seeking Mr Eaten's Name is a 100% honest story line. As in, it's 100% honest about what it's about to do to you. You can actually navigate most of it without bearing too heavy a cost. You can even turn back at the precipice and get a nifty unique item. But if you actually completely the journey it does mean the end of your character.

Is it worth it to complete the Seeking quest? That will depend on the person. My advice would be to avoid Seeking for now (or at least, take a break from it once you hit 27 and the weekly Unaccountably Peckish boost stops working) and wait until you've completed all the other interesting story lines and are starting to get bored. Then see how you feel about finishing it.

There are ways to do it relatively painlessly early on, though never truly cheaply. Every candle has a price, and every price is greater than the last, even should you use the slow and less agonizing route.

I will accept all social actions that do not consume free evenings- and i will provide patronage to anyone who requests it, though it will be split between all requesters.

I'd like to echo the very good advice above. If the idea of "sell everything and keep selling it until you have nothing but echoes, and then find a way to lose even your echoes" makes you flinch, then Seeking the Name isn't for you. It's the Sunk Cost Fallacy in action. Items are the least of things Seeking sacrifices. Connected qualities, notability, and in extreme cases even your opportunity deck can all be thrown down the well.

The game isn't lying when it says nothing good comes of this.

If you want to keep playing, yes, SMEN is not for you. Not now, at least. Maybe later. Maybe never.

Thanks everyone for so many quick answers. I think I'll keep the quest, but only do things if I am aware of what I'm giving up for that part, and am ok with that.

Though I have a different, unrelated question, I'll save that for anouther day, when I have the time IRL.
