I'm sure that if you tried hard enough you could mark that out of fungus. Especially Neathy fungus, even more especially if the sun are too busy dying to say it impossible and most especially if one has the help of the uttershroom itself.
So what could be his goal?
1. Be the super successful industrialist. Buy some of that cider too. Take advantage of all the patents you got while all the clerks in the patent office were curled up a foetal position in the corner in the first few weeks after the fall.
2. Create good employment for Blemmigans so that have a way to get off the uttershroom, which was grown dull, whilst doing 1.
3. Plan to make it so Londoners (and then everybody else) eat so much of his fungal products they all turn into Blemmigans. Who wouldn't want that?
4. Its all that elaborate plan to get the principate of coral to cheer the heck up.
5. Achieve of propagation score high enough that the uttershroom will finally marry him/her/it/them/whatever.
6. So dominate an industry that he gets to become a master, probably Mr. Fungus.
7. Murder all the judgement, dragons, bazaar like entities and anything else powerful enough to stop him, with fungus of course, so he can bring forth the uttermostshroom. A blemmigan that fills the entire universe.

I'm pretty sure that Murgatroyd products are made out of the more mundane, non-purple and non-sentient varieties of neathy fungus.

I found another connection. The card for restoring a thousand souls mentions that it is in his place. I guess this could an another explain of the ostentatious philanthropy that was popular amongst the super rich at the time. Maybe he sold his soul to kick-start his business and is trying to get it back?
