Lord Gazter follows Eglantine. "If only he kept up with me. I wouldn't be in this mess."

"It all fell to pieces, didn't it?" they say sympathetically. "Left you looking bad. Tell me about it, and I'll see if I can get you out of the mess." A hesitation, before they kiss his cheek, and whisper in his ear, "Please, let me help you get out of this."

"My dear Eglantine.. thank you my love." Lord Gazter follows blindly follows her the bag still over his head.

"Oh. Here." An embarrassed little giggle, and Eglantine pulls the bag off entirely, having only lifted it for their gestures. A gentle hand smooths Gazter's hair back into place where the bag has ruffled it. "That's better, isn't it?"

Ezekiel sprays a dry mist over Eglantine in a sneeze-like fashion, which normally means it's annoyed, but in this case, doesn't. "Stay safe, Barker."

EZ goes about scraping up some of the thugs, maybe it will find something useful. Who knows?

After they've left the alley, they speak anew. "They're... impassioned, those two." Eglantine sounds regretful. "They are my friends, but..." The words are slow and reluctant, and Eglantine's arm slides around Gazter's waist. "Please, tell me the details. Making sure you're not in the line of fire for trouble is all that really matters right now."

"I'll tell you everything I know." Lord Gazter takes a moment to recall the events as precisely as he can remember. "I went into the establishment and found a spot that would be perfect for a meeting that would go unnoticed. I had visited the place before so I knew where that was. Eli came in and was rather antsy." Lord Gazter smiles. "I tried to haggle with him over my services. Then two men entered the establishment. I tried to tell Eli to follow me out of the back door, but he just screamed and drew his blade. The next thing I know I'm out the door and running for my life." Lord Gazter pauses for a moment. "I then heard pistol fire and rushed back to help Eli. Ezekiel almost killed me, although that isn't much of a surprise. I gave up my weapon and let him put on these handcuffs and a bag over my head, and you already know all the rest."

Eglantine clicks their tongue in sympathy. "What a dreadful evening." They regard Gazter from under lowered lashes. "And if they'd asked me, I could have told them that you're a rifleman, not a pistol-wielder," they purr, voice heavy with innuendo as they smile teasingly up at him.

Lord Gazter smile fades for a second. "What do you think Eli's going to do with me before we can prove my innocence?"

"He won't do anything," Eglantine insists. "I'll see to that for you." Their arm tightens possessively around Gazter's waist.

The next day, Eli is getting his bandages adjusted by the physician. Almost ready to get back on the streets. The door opens.

"Eglantine. I could use that report right about now." He says brusquely, but somewhat politely considering there is a jar of leeches on the table. "What did you get out of Gazter?"

"He has no idea who those men were. Was very emphatic about his innocence." Eglantine is brisk and businesslike, now. "Afraid of your potential misaimed vengeance. Bringing him into the fold would require a very gentle touch now, but assuring him all is well should help everyone."

"No, he is a loose end at this point... As long as he lives..." Eli nods, crossing his arms behind his back. "Do what you will with him, but we have no further need of his information. I'd drop him, break his heart and let him cry it out on the side lines personally, but you're the marksman here."

Eli imitates finger guns. "Pow pow. You call the shots. More laudanum, Doctor."
