Self-explanatory, I think wink

If you have multiple characters, vote for your main one!

The "Nobody" option is for characters that haven't yet reached the stage where they can choose a faction, can't decide, or simply prefer to be left alone...

Strangely enough, Flesh-Stick is closest to Society, despite their almost certainly mutual dislike for one another. He couldn't really help it. He saw the Prim Baronet needed help and started thinking with his namesake :P

I'm surprised Revolutionaries isn't higher- I was expecting them and Great Game to overwhelm the other options because of the automatic shift from the Nadir (since those two have the highest monetary reward for giving the location to them). I'm Great Game because it's just too expensive to switch after selling them the Cave and because there's so little benefit to being close to anyone in particular. If it ever _mattered_ I'd switch to the Bohemians, I think.

We definitely need the ability to be closest to the Rubberies! Especially now that they have their own (proper) card.

I don't disagree, which is why I feel like the penalties for switching are too harsh. Just because I'm not _closest_ to you anymore, I have to zero out my 225 ranks in Great Game, in addition to spending resources? Yeah, I'll just stick with them.

We'll see how that feeling changes when GG gets switched to renown/favors.

I picked the Great Game to start with, for fancying my character as a pickpocket with espionage aspirations and stuck with that choice through the Nadir, though I was sorely tempted to side with Hell for role-playing purposes there. I might consider cashing in all my GG connections at some point and then switching over to the devils anyway.

I boast a boring Closest To: the Great Game thanks to the Nadir. (They're nice, but probably half the veteran playerbase has those guys thanks to the big N) Before that (rather profitable) discovery, I would boast of having a Closest To: Hell, but alas.

I’m closest to the Constables, as I feel that the majority of the them genuinely want what is best for the city at large. I’ve dealt with the excesses of the Velocipede Squad quite firmly, mechanics be damned.

One of the major benefit of the conversion to Favours/Renown is that the build up of Connected will be mostly replaced by Renown, while spending it will be replaced by Favours. That means that switching Closest To won’t wipe out your quality. I’d still prioritize lore over mechanics, though. The game isn’t nearly as fun if you don’t eventually do what you feel is right.

My character has some close factions, but she is closest to the Bohemians, as while her focus may have shifted from pleasure to power while being in the Neath, her soft spot for her hedonistic friends will never. It's hard to endulge by yourself.
My recent first alt isn't closest to anyone yet, but I'm planning on them being closest to the church.

Neither choices are based on mechanics, though. I'd rather regret missing out mechanically, rather than feeling like my choices don't suit my character, roleplay-wise.

I'm still too new to have a Closest To, so this is a really interesting topic - seeing how people think of their affiliation. And what it's all about in general, too. So far I've considered the GG or the Bohemians as my favorites, but I'll let the character develop and see where it takes me.

It's pretty bizzare that tomb colonists get a "closest to" but rubbery men and the duchess still don't have one(maybe the widow too but her conenctions don't feel the same as others and being closest to the Masters would be...special).

I'll admit, I started closest to The Great Game, but once I finished exploiting that for all it was worth, I went with my true favorite, The Urchins. What can I say? The larcenous, mischievously endearing scamps have a special place in my affections. Even if they are snot nosed hooligans more often than not.

Yeah, it would be nice if they made the Closest To quality a bit more mechanically consequential and hence worth the costs of switching. Having this quality play a big role in the election festivals would be a good start.

Myself, I started out Closest to the Church and then joined the Great Game when I sold the Spymaster the route to the Nadir. This wasn't accidental though, my character was increasingly attracted to the Game's mysticism and wanted to join them without injuring her reputation with the Church (over 100 connected). The Nadir offered a plum opportunity for a seamless (and profitable) change of allegiance.

btw, does anyone have an echo of the normal means of immersing oneself in the Game? I've always been curious about the text.

I sold the Nadir to the revolutionaries since I knew I was going to switch back to the bohemians and there was a lucrative way to cash in on all my revolutionaries CP before dumping them.

My main used to be closest to the Urchins, but I didn't see enough player advantage in that. The Docks allow her to be close to disadvantaged people who still have some clout.

My alt is Closest to Bohemians.

Interesting poll though I have to wonder if there's any benefit to being Connected to the Church. The Great Game also seems like the one connection that has the most benefits second to Bohemians and the Docks.

Three alts: Society (main, my vote), urchins (probably my preferred), and bohemian (strategic).

There will probably be a bias in favour of those factions which allow grinding 'counting the days' without the need for opportunity cards, but it'll be interesting to see how much.

The Professor is closest to Church. She is not a religious zealot or anything, but, out of all the factions, they are the guardians of the ideal she has in her heart (even if the church officers often corrupt this ideal for their own ends).

Derek is closest to urchins because he was one (and, in many aspects, still is) and trust them more than other groups.

I'm closest to the Constables, mostly because at that point, all I had seen of them in the stories were mostly akin to police and the Last Constable and in a town like London, I'm sure the police could be helpful. Only later did I learn about the proliferation of Specials and the Velocipede Squad. Even still though there's something to be said about their do-gooder foot soliders who are actually trying to stop the rampant army of muggers and spirifiers who prey on the rampant army of drunks and people in the same hospital in Ladybones. If I was willing to change I might go with the Church or the Urchins since in rp I'd probably side with the most do-good-iest faction and I've got a thing for the Urchins despite them being larcenous and wantonly destructive.
