Last night I dreamt I logged into Fallen London and found my character in the lacre pits. She couldn't travel anywhere are do any actions at all! It turned out, I learnt from these forums, the Sixth City had fallen and only characters who were out of London at the time could still be played!
Maybe I need to go to the Mirror-Marches every time I log out ...

No more scandal parties would be tragic, indeed.
One other benefit of heading to the Marches every time you log out .. ... keeps your Is Someone There down nice and low.
(of course it'll wreck you action economy, but no one said that dreaming your day away was supposed to be productive)
