Does any good come from this storyline? Should I stop before it's too late? I am only at 2, but it's giving me a strong aura of "you're going to get fucked".

There is some intriguing lore that has tie ins to the University and some Fate-Locked Content (The Gift). It becomes slightly expensive to raise it at later levels but it caps out at five. There is nothing to be afraid of besides disturbing lore and some nightmares I believe.
