I hit the 400 echo mark again yesterday, and I'm still not sure what to buy with it. I'll definetly go for one of the expensive Bazaarine items at Dauncey's, Carrow's Steel, MERCURY, etcetera. But I'm just not sure what, exactly.
Any advice for a budding young Tomb-Colonist trying to waste his life savings on stylish clothing?

Depending upon what you already have, I certainly recommend the Kingscale Boots.

One of the first things to purchase are one of the +10 Persuasive hats and the Lenguals, followed by Kittenpox's boots. What I don't recommend buying is one of those Ratwork Watches, which is pretty easy to get your hands without spending money.

Far Khanate Lacquered Armour is exactly 400 Echoes and seems a fine acquisition for an adventurous Tomb Colonist.

I'd say that any equippable item that you can buy that will give you a net INCREASE in your total Bizarre, Dreaded, Respectable count is worth having. The Lenguals are good because they're the only gloves that give you a point of BDR.

As an addition to kittenpox and Vav's points, Kingscale Boots are a bit less attractive if you got the Campaigner boots from election - before, Kingscale were the only BDR boots, but now there's an alternative. If you do have the Campaigner boots then Spidersilk Slippers are probably better - you can upgrade them to give +9 Shadowy in the Nadir, and they're cheaper!

If you don't have Campaigner boots, Kingscale remain the only BDR boots, though.

Reasons why I'm not a competitive player: it doesn't matter how much watchful and BDR it gives, I will NOT wear gloves that salivate.

Good thing they give Shadowy then, so you can still get SotC 21 :P

My mistake, but the point remains. I don't care of it's best in slot for shadowy. Yuck.

My sentiments exactly. I don't want to leave a puddle of drool as my calling card every time I steal something.

Question, is it worth getting the Scuttering Squad instead? I think I'll be able to muster another 100 echoes by cutting into some stockpiles I have.

If the Advent Calendar is the same as previous years and you can wait until December you might be able to get a Scuttering Squad without spending any echoes. But it is your choice.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Oh, absolutely!

Each day you can claim a different gift, and while some are mundane, a few are exceptionally valuable and/or rare.

Are you talking about that Rare Success robbing drunken rats in Spite? I’ve done that plenty of times, and it hasn’t come up. Was I just getting unlucky, or was I correct in concluding it is rare enough to not be worth the effort?

It's extremely rare, but still worth the effort, especially once you have high shadowy.
