There are many ways to describe your character. You could look at their past and future, their opinions, their appearance or their accomplishments...

Or you could just make a list of tropes. That would work, too. (Especially if you include some examples as to why your character is such a Magnificent Bastard)

Have fun!

Passionario
"If you are not the flame, you are the fuel."

An ex-agent of the Bazaar on a road to nowhere.

Assassins Are Always Betrayed: Once a Fist of the Bazaar, now its prey.
Bald of Evil
Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: There's a reason why his Steadfast score rarely rises above 0.
Complete Monster
Eyeless Face: During his irrigo overdose days. He got better.
From Nobody to Nightmare: Used to be just another exciting new face in Fallen London. Then he went to the Palace. Things escalated downward from there.
Fully-Embraced Fiend
Hero Killer
Hyper Awareness: Has acute senses as side effect of regular indulgence in Gaoler's Honey, and a chorus of prophetic voices in his head warning him of danger.
Kavorka Man: Despite being described as unattractive, Passionario is both a Scarlet Saint and a Legendary Charisma.
Killer Cop: A former neddy man and Velocipede Constable.
Kill Me Now Or Forever Stay Your Hand
Knife Nut: Watch out for those Waxwail knives.
Knowledge Broker: Before working for the Bazaar, he used to be a freelancer in the Great Game.
Moral Event Horizon: The martyrdom of Elias Lowe certainly qualifies.
Power Degeneration: Similar to the Royal Children, consumption of red honey is slowly turning Passionario into something inhuman, and the prophetic voices in his head are driving him insane.
Self-Disposing Villain: "I will claim what is due. I will be my own reckoner and witness".
Sinister Minister: Some Midnighters are good, or at least well-meaning people. Passionario, on other hand, is one of those who give the profession a bad name.
The Unfettered: There are no more strings on him.
Villainous Breakdown: Suffered one after contact with Elias Lowe's soul.
You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Cast out by the Masters after thirteen years of service.

Why not!

Reginald, Lord Hubris
Aristocrats are Evil: A bona fide baron; in fact, the 13th Unfortunate Baron of Hubris Hall, Staffordshire. Also a thoroughly unpleasant person.
TheFagin: The Hubris House for Young Troublemakers takes in street urchins and trains them in the field of serious crime.
Hair-Trigger Temper: His defining vice. He can fly into a rage at the least little thing, and seldom makes any effort to resist indulging his temper.
High-Class Glass: Wears a corrective monocle in his left eye.
ImpoverishedPatrician: The Fall, and his own excesses, combined to rob him of his family estate; he considers his involvement in the underworld a reasonable method of regaining his status.
Moral Myopia: Still considers himself an upstanding, conservative society gent; after all, his crimes don't affect anyone who really matters.
Wouldn't Hurt A Child: Has a genuine soft spot for children, and protects and looks after the youths in his employ, in his own way.
Oh, all right. I give up. I'll try.
The Good Captain -- Because I ain't playing a villain.
An Officer and A Gentleman -- In the end we are who we are.
Bifauxnen -- Because some days you need to be a woman in trousers.
Bishonen -- Because some days you need to be a man in a gown.
Bi The Way -- Kind like who I like, that's all, no big thing.
Platonic Life Partners -- Ever entangled.
Cool Boat -- Few know it but the 'Brazen Hussy' is magnificent.
Neighborhood Friendly Gangsters -- Why no, Mr. Fires and the Longshoremen and Zailor's Union don't get along....
A Father to His Men -- Loyalty runs both directions, a good crew makes for a good ship.
Wooden Ships and Iron Men -- In many ways the Captain belongs to an earlier, more heroic age, an age of boarding actions and daring, an age of exploration and wonder, an age of danger and opportunity.
Sure, I'll play too. This is for my main character.
Vengeance is Mine -- She came to the Neath for the sole purpose of finding, and avenging, the lover who was slain here for reasons she is only beginning to understand.

Under Deep Cover -- Deliberately cultivates deep ties to *all* the factions, so none of them will suspect what she's really doing.

Virgin in the Drawing Room -- And a very different sort of woman in the bedroom, say with two or three close friends at a time.

Advanced Degrees in Badass -- Just ask Feducci, the Ambassador, the Topsy King, and the Boatman.

Tough But Soft-Hearted -- She even rescues Grubby Kittens!
Oops! I didn't realize I was supposed to look for REAL tropes my character embodies! (That could take forever!) I just made these up....never mind. :-)

Don't worry, I did it just because being a teacher is not a job, it's a frame of mind. You just can't resist an intellectual challenge, or the chance to help someone with an information you have easily at hand. (I did some tvtropes archeology not long ago for creating my webcomic's tvtropes page, so most of them were still fresh in my mind).

Ooo, looks like fun!

Flesh-Stick-who amusingly enough, already HAS a section on TVTropes here

The Fallen London version has a few more tropes that can apply to him, however.

No Indoor Voice - Probably his most distinguishing trait in journals and on the forums. As a Psycho Bandit, he literally can't help it. They all talk like that.
Love Hurts - His love life in the Neath has NOT been kind to him
Genre Refugee - He comes from a different game with a completely different tone in a completely different genre. Set more than a thousand years after the events of Fallen London.
Villain of Another Story - He's a minor but fairly nasty villain in the game he's from. His torture and death are not only QUITE deserved, but absolutely hilarious. He's become a lot nicer since the Neath Woobified him.
Sad Clown - so much so, as his time in the Neath continues on
Super Gullible - He was WAY too trusting in the beginning. London has mostly stamped this out of him.
Horrible Judge of Character - One reason WHY his love life has been so punishing
Reformed Criminal - has become Chaotic Good since coming to the Neath
Mommy Issues - like all Psycho Bandits
Buttmonkey - Has pretty bad luck down here. Depending on his state of mind, he'll react to this with either self-pity or cheerful obliviousness.
Anything that Moves - If there's a chance he can take it to bed, he'll chase after it. This trait has mostly faded away as he's been hurt over and over.
Hates Being Alone / Desperately Craves Affection / Cuddlebug - Very extroverted, very lonely, and very demonstrative with his affections.
Weakness Turns Him On - A male example. Loves playing hero and will often become QUITE devoted to those he rescues. Also probably explains his attraction to meek, uptight men.
Why Can't I Hate You? - Not true! He totally hates that Affectionate Devil and don't you dare imply otherwise!!!! Also, he does NOT keep a picture of said devil under his pillow. Shut up.
Delinquent Hair - Proud of his triple mohawk. I have no idea where he finds hair dye down here though.
Fiery Redhead - is a redhead underneath said hair dye and is very passionate/quick tempered.
Streaking - whenever he can!
Walking Shirtless Scene - He did not like the mayoral candidates pinning rosettes to his chest :P
The Berserker - like all Psycho Bandits, he can be civil and coherent (if very strange) but once he loses his temper or his fighting instincts take over, becomes a fiery whirlwind of vicious, vicious violence.
The Lost Lenore - The Scarred Naturalist, and, to a lesser extent, the Placid Patriarch. I guess we can add Eli Lowe to this as well now. And Cheeryman.
Tattoo as Character Type - Full Body type. Somewhat fits the raging psychopath interpretation, though he has calmed down a lot by now.
Attention Whore - Of course :P

Jonathan Dunn:
 • Affably Evil: Advocate Dunn is charming, friendly, and is always ready to help a friend out. He’s also in league with Criminals, sold his soul to Hell, and has committed more wickedness than the average Devil. He also robs people in the street even if he doesn’t need it.
 • Amoral Attorney: As an Advocate (Crooked Cross) Jonathan Dunn is well-versed in the law. And how to get around it. Or break it if he won’t get caught.
 • Badass Bookworm: Mr. Dunn is an infamous author, scientist, Professor, and in general more intellectually-earned titles than the average government official and the ability to follow through on any threat he makes.
 • The Bad Guy Wins: Mr. Dunn has come out on top of every venture he’s started off on so far, even with a mountain of bodies and bloody deeds.
 • Better Living Through Evil: Bloody deeds and general wickedness have brought Mr. Dunn to the luxurious and privileged lifestyle he now enjoys.
 • But For Me It Was Tuesday: Mr. Dunn couldn’t begin to remember all his past victims. He tries to keep track of the more memorable or important ones so it doesn’t come back to bite him though.
 • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Many of those who have allied with Mr. Dunn believed they were safe from his dagger in their back. Or in their front. Or poison in their tea. Or being sold out to their enemies. They were wrong. He’s quite nice to his friends though.
 • Deal With The Devil: Many deals in fact. Rising swiftly through the ranks, Jonathan went from Trickster to Conjurer to Crooked Cross, increasing his power base with the Devils along the way. Dunn decided to strengthen his ties with Hell by selling his soul (its conscience was weighing him down) and purchasing a A Sanctum at the Brass Embassy by trading the Reported Location of a One-Time Prince of Hell. His visit to The Iron Republic went…strangely. But it was…liberating.
 • Elaborate Underground Base: Advocate Jonathan Dunn dwells in A Sanctum at the Brass Embassy. He enjoys the feel of iron in the air and the whispers of the souls on his shelves.
 • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Be they Rubbery Men, Devils, Unfinished Men, The Masters, or women (Mr. Dunn is a proud supporter of the Benthic Society), Mr. Dunn will deal with anyone and anything if they will help further his schemes.
 • Eviler Than Thou: Be they serial killers, criminal masterminds, scheming politicians, or in at least one case a Master, Jonathan Dunn showed them how much farther there was to sink. Mr. Dunn met his match when he accidently was on the scene when the Royal Family were having a meal. He chose not to pry further, recognizing the danger.
 • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: Smoked glass lenses hide the…enhancements made to Mr. Dunn’s eyes in The Iron Republic. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, you don’t want to see what’s looking out of his.
 • From Nobody to Nightmare: Going from a young man cooling his heels in a cell to one of the most powerful of Hell’s agents, leader of a Criminal empire, and infamous for his numerous deeds both wicked and divine, Jonathan Dunn is a London success story.
 • Karma Houdini: He’s been unwillingly sent to Prison, The Tomb Colonies, A Room at the Royal Bethlehem Hotel, and a Governorship, but each time Jonathan Dunn has escaped any true punishment.
 • Living a Double Life: When he’s living it up with high Society, Advocate Jonathan Dunn is THE man to know. He’ll charm you with his wit and spark your imagination with his plans for moving London forward. When he’s dealing with his vast criminal empire or slumming he is Mr. Dunn. Cross him and you’ll be crossed as many times over as it takes to send a message. Anyone suggesting Advocate Dunn and Mr. Dunn are the same person will be cautioned not to repeat such slanderous rumors. There are so many bad things that can happen by accident. Or on purpose.
 • Neutral Evil: Advocate Dunn uses his knowledge of the law to stay within the confines of it while exploiting the Hell out of it. Mr. Dunn breaks the law when it gets in his way.
 • Pragmatic Villainy: Jonathan Dunn knows what lines he can cross and doesn’t overreach. He’ll take the slower climb to power if need be and enjoy it every step of the way.
 • The Unfettered: The only things holding Jonathan Dunn back are those who can stop him. And there are not many who can.
 • Villain with Good Publicity: As Advocate Dunn, Jonathan is a well-respected member of Society. He’s an infamous artist, author, social reformist, and wit.
 • Villains Out Shopping: Mr. Dunn often goes slumming in the seedier districts or just goes shopping in the Bazaar.

Ooooo, I just remembered I've never done it for Derek!

Derek Davis:
Lover, Not a Fighter: before knowing the Professor and learning a few tricks from her, Derek has never truly fought anyone. Even today, he prefers too use his charm and silver tongue to get out of dangerous situation and can cheat like there's no tomorrow.
The Casanova: Before his misadventures in the bat body, he was living an amoral and hedonistic life, which left a trail of ex-lovers behind him.
Gold Digger: Used to be his job. Everything he had was attained from Sugar Daddies (and Mamas) that he seduced in Society Balls.
Looking for Love in All Wrong Places: His current state. He is not so centered in self pleasure anymore, but will still get around, trying to understand all these strange feelings he is having since he started living with a decent woman that has absolutely no ulterior interests on him.
The Charmer: Now that he is desperately trying to mend his ways to prove himself to the Professor, Derek became less aggressive with his whole 'using people' thing, but he will still melt hearts with his charm to get his goals, if he figures that it won't hurt his target.
Sharp Dressed Man: It doesn't matter if he is snooping around to write his gossip column or in a society ball, he will always be impaccably tailored.
Gentleman Thief: In his pre-Strix days, he would prefer sleep his way to money, but wasn't above pilfering valuables from the rich for a change.
Stage Magician: His first job after he got back to his normal body. He still runs his regular show at Saturdays in Mahogany Hall, but his money, nowadays, mostly come from being a reporter and helping the Professor with her cases for a cut of the winnings.
Sarcastic Devotee: He tries to be charming with the Professor, but can't help himself from snarking or calling her an 'old geezer' or something like that. If anyone else does this to her, though, he will lash out at this person in a "hypocritical heartwarming" way.
The Watson: He is the sidekick of a detective, after all.
Intrepid Reporter: He doesn't really need to do field work to write the gossip column, but he is dedicated to his craft (plus, it gives him an excuse to go out and follow the Professor around).
Deadpan Snarker: It's easier to point out when he is not being sarcastic.
So Unfunny, it's Funny: One of his methods to cheer up a salon or make a girl he is flirting open up to him. It's not always successful, but it does tend to charm certain kinds of people.
Sharing a Body: His soul was trapped in a Sulky Bat body for a while, and would probably still be there if it wasn't for a certain inquisitive academic. He had plenty of time to rethink his previous life choices.

I'll probably go and change some of these with time, but still.

Ambigous Gender - Top hats, dresses, discreet sexual partners.
FOR SCIENCE! - Are currently working on a tome (7 Journals) about the strange and shifting laws of the Iron Republic.
Bazaar of the Bizarre - They barter in tales about the items in their shops, in exchange for another story and a memento for future use.
Took a Level in Badass - You know, there was a time that they were just a craftsman that made detailed figurines. Oh, how long ago that was! (Less than a month, I say!)
Mad Scientist - Are going to the Iron Republic FOR SCIENCE! If that isn't mad, I have no idea what is.
Even Neutral Has Standarts - Master Thief, Mad Scientist, K&C Veteran, won't touch any of their clientele.
Fragile Speedster - One good hit, and they're outta the game.
Cool Mask - Always have one. ALWAYS!
Malevolent Masked Individual - Yeah, they aren't the most moral of the bunch.
Cool Sword - It glows, too! A relic from their K&C days.
Gender Neutral Writing - Could've guessed from the amount of 'they' above this one.
Reality Warper - In Parabola, abusing problems with local math.
Puff of Logic - That's how they Reality Warp. Note: does not always end with less stuff than at the start.
Throwing Your Sword - Can come down to this, but most stop at the knives.
Kicking Ass In All Their Finery - Wear the same Bombazine-and-Parabola-Linen dress for every occasion.
Pimped Out Dress - If you fight in a dress, at least fight in one made up exclusively out of Neath Materials.

Note: some things were skipped due to how common they are in FL (Cultured Badass stands out most)

Amets Estibariz, the Moulting Eidolon: Cradled by a sun all their own.

Ambiguous Gender: Oh wow are they ever.
The Tragic Rose: Eglantine = a type of wild rose, also known as the sweetbriar rose. This is a person with some troubles.
Really Gets Around: They earned those points in hedonist.
Monster Roommate: Eglantine loves their weird buddies and companions. Yes, even the Snuffer and the Devil.
Gentleman Thief: Clever. Charming. Just keeps stealing things.

Soran
Seeker Archetype - Not that kind of Seeker; they just have a general insatiable thirst for secrets and knowledge.
The Great Detective
Defective Detective - They're great at what they do, despite being drug-addicted, soulless, and depressed.
The Soulless - And quite content that way, thank you.
Anything That Moves - Guys, girls, mummies, rock people, bees; anything.
Ambiguous Gender - Doesn't identify as male or female.
Gentleman (well, gentleperson) And A Scholar
Badass Bookworm
Byronic Hero - Tries to be good, but they can be cynical and and ruthless at times, and while "dark and troubled past" would probably be pushing it, their past is still none too happy.
Bat Out Of Hell - Their animal is the bat, they keep pet bats, and they're Destined to become a bat one day.

Kasha Cairn
Diabolical Mastermind - They aim to rule from the shadows.
Affably Evil - They are awfully charming
The Chessmaster
Moral Pragmatist - Will occasionally do nice things for others if there's something in it for them.
Asshole Victim - When I deliberately got them buried alive.
Ambiguous Gender - Unlike Soran, Cairn merely obfuscates their true gender to keep their identity as much of a mystery as possible.
The Faceless - Almost no one knows what they look like under those rags.
Clever Crows - Styles themself "the Magpie," and keeps a number of pet ravens.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones - There is one person they genuinely love, and they seem to have a very real soft spot for their pet weasels and ravens.

Zero Hunt
Bunny Ears Lawyer - Acts like a goof, but he's great at what he does.
Dark And Troubled Past - There's a reason he has the highest Melancholy quirk of all my characters...
Sole Survivor - The last surviving member of his whole family.
Badass Gay
Cunning Like A Fox - His animal is the fox.
Anti-Hero - One of my nicest characters, but also has a decent Ruthless streak and the highest Bringer of Death quality of all my characters.
Badass In A Nice Suit - A very shiny suit.
The Charmer
Loveable Rogue

Thysania
Knife Nut
Blood Knight
Ax-Crazy
Hair-Trigger Temper
The Hunter - Hunting and killing is all she really lives for.
Terse Talker - Only barely knows how to speak like a real person.
The Unfettered - Literally has no morals, and pretty much no emotional attachments to anything.
Macabre Moth Motif - Her animal is the moth, and as such, she's creepy, unpredictable, self-destructive, and twitchy.
Seeker Archetype - That kind of Seeker; if the knowledge will burn, she seeks it.

The Secret-Hungry Bat ~ "I have my bats and my works, and endless secrets and pleasures at my disposal; what need have I of a soul?"
The Dangerously-Charming Fox ~ "Let's go stab each other and then get drunk together! That's what friends do around here, right?"
The Ever-Scheming Magpie ~ "All I'm after is a fresh start... And maybe a little profit on the side..."

Thanks, Professor! Now that you mention it, those are a really great translation of what I was trying to convey in TV Tropes terms.

I looked at "Wild Card" and it's not quite what my main character is like--she has more stubbornness and dedication to objectives than than Wild Card implies. She's closer to He Who Fights Monsters (need not be male, as I see it) in that her pursuit of what she thinks is right is so strong that she no longer keeps track of the moral implications of what she's doing to achieve it. Or perhaps she's just someone who commits Van Helsing Hate Crimes against the folk she considers to be the bad guys. (He Who Fights Monsters better explains the coalmen and Vicars she fed to her potted plant, though).

But "Deep Cover Agent" is better still, because that's how she got onto this path in the first place; she figured it was smarter to carry out her objectives of avenging her lover and harrowing hell by getting as close as possible to *everybody* -- including the Devils -- without revealing what she's really about. And she had high connections with everybody (including Society and Bohemians, before those qualities became key to earning Making Waves, and I try to re-build them up to 100 at least). However, her highest Connections are with the Church and the Constables, in that order (over 1600 and over 800, respectively).
Sorry about not adding the trope links to this post, but I can't figure out what tags to use that will work.
The Professor - Well, duh.
The Smart Gal - specially when compared with her usual companions, like Derek.
Omnidisciplinary Scientist - Not that omnidisciplinary, but she s a former chemist from Surface and did fill a library with her own work on Correspondence, Cryptopaleontology, Theosophy and Prelapsarian Archeology.
Mad Scientist - She is not a villanious exemple. Most of the time.
Badass Bookworm - Watchful and Dangerous are her top stats, Watchful is the higher.
Adventurer Archeologist - Her favourite activity out in the Zee.
Muscles are Meaningless - She is a bit too short and scrawny-looking for all the feats in the Dangerous storyline, but it doesn't stop her from wrestling a rhino.
Minored in Asskicking - Being a fearsome duelist is just something she does to unwind. Her students and clients for detective services mostly have no idea that this small erudite woman can punch down thugs and do that aforementioned rhino wrestling when the situation calls for it.
Bersek Button - Spirifers trying to abstract a soul. Bonus points if it's - as it usually is with spirifers - non-consensual.
Mystery Writer Detective - She earns a quick buck on Veilgarden, eventually, writing mystery short stories and mystery penny dreadfuls under the alias Writing Owl. Her clients don't know about that either.
Celibate Eccentric Genius - Not so much celibate, as she is asexual and need for sex doesn't even register in her mind. She does prefer not to engage on it, since it's so boring and gross.
Deadpan Snarker - So deadpan that it's often difficult to know when she is seriously lecturing someone or just snarking.
Crazy Bat Lady - Since she figured out how to effectively train them, she started to hoard Sulky Bats. She knows all of them by name.
Stern Teacher - She is too old and tired to put up with students' shenanigans, but she still likes them and wants them to succeed.
Older than she looks - The professor is 56, but she stopped aging when she was 30. She looks even younger than that, since women in her family tend to look younger than their real age.
Must be Invited - When in bloodsucking mode, a.k.a., Wounds 8 or more.
Breaking and Bloodsucking: If the person is unwise enough to invite her in when she is all dead-eyed and covered in wounds.

"I'll just pick a few of these and move on," I said to myself. An hour later...
Kind Hearted Cat Lover - "I have a tiger. Do you have a tiger?" And eight house cats, a lion, a panther, and an ocelot.

Noble Demon - Well on her way to graduating into one. Won't hurt children, won't kill unless absolutely necessary, etc. She really believes in what she's doing.

A Gentlewoman and a Scholar

Nouveau Riche ...Whose facade slips now and then.

Single Target Sexuality - This did not end well for her, turning her into a celibate "hero."

Harp of Femininity - According to her Slowcake's entry, she can play the harp.

Rapunzel Hair - No kidding.

Some sort of combination of an Amazonian Beauty and Pint Sized Powerhouse.

Might have been a Lady of War, except elegance is for the Shuttered Palace, and cocky, trash-talking, reckless fun is for the fighting ring.
