It is probably because the three choices we have are very colorful, un-politician characters? Plus, Sinning Jenny and the Contrarian are memorable but I don't think you ever have a particularly in-depth story with either of them, while the Bishop is so singularly minded on that one topic that you can't see him running for Mayor in the first place.

Will people without access to card hands be able to participate in the elections? Some of us have been very unwise, or have eyeless skulls, or faction conflicts etc. I have sooooo many can't discards that its such a tangled web it would take literal months to unweave them all and so I can't even the cards.

New stories! I shall return to London most promptly to participate in this.

The Jovial Contrarian is the only one who I remember having met face-to-spit-flecked-face, while Jenny and the Bishop are more on the "heard of" terms. I've yet to decide who's to get my vote, however...

Will the actions to elect a Mayor require any resources, or just commitment?

Also, is it as much of a coincidence as it seems that the election starts on the Fourth of July? rather American, dontchaknow.

Ah great, now I'll have to take a break from my echo grinding to support my chosen candidate. Alas, democracy must be served by bending our resources to impose our will upon the electorate. It's just like real life!

I think they were just trying to start on the first Monday of July and run for two weeks. That said, I would whole heatedly support it being moved to the 7th. Also for an increase to 7 candidates. And everyone gets 7 votes. And we will cast our votes by throwing them into 7 wells. An election will not be postponed indefinitely.

have you also considered the power of ILLEGALLY PROCURED FIREWORKS? perhaps that would be worth not postponing a reckoned election.

I'm just really excited for the idea of "collaborative play". Large scale social interaction is one of the things that have been missing from Fallen London lately, and this election sounds like it could be a big step in the right direction (for the future of social play). Maybe one day we'll see a 20 person 2000 supply expedition in the forgotten quarter or something haha (no that's a terrible idea).

Vote Bishop of Southwark for player fueled Invasion of Hell!*

We only failed last time for lack of obscenely wealthy ubermensch leading the charge!

*Note: The Bishop of Southwark being elected may not lead to an actual invasion of hell

I think it would be a cool idea, but given the amount of coordination we players have achieved through these Forums, I doubt FBG could allow such actions or we'd tear FL apart. Prematurely.

I'm glad to hear about a new big Event in Fallen London. Living in the Neath has its own pros and cons, and every new BIG happening is quite a pleasure and a sweet distraction.

Now, speaking on a political side of these elections, one thing bothers me. What real influence or, if you want, a political power, will the Mayor obtain via elections? Is he just a puppet to please and contain the revolution\opposition moods? What are Mayor's relations with The Masters. Personally, i don't believe he could present a real power and represent Londoners before The Masters.
Truly yours,

This is very cool! I was also regretting the long dry spell before the Zee Festival in the fall. Can't wait to see how this goes!

I don't know who I'll be supporting yet, though.

Well, We have truth- the contrarian will always speak the part of it you're missing. And we have freedom- sinning jenny is nothing if not free. And we've got a hard-boiled egg- there is no way the bishop is justice. But where's justice?

Vote for the Dragons that enforce the law of stars!

The Bishop winning is not going to destroy London :P It's only the mayor's office after all. Parliament, the Palace, and Exchange, and the Bazaar is where most of the power is.

The real issue of this election is the Soul Trade. The Bishop as Mayor could potentially make it very difficult for sprifers and devils by rigorously/obstructively enforcing laws on soul trading while giving the Committee of Vital Restitution's activities a total pass. The Bishop can be trusted to make speeches against the trade and try to do something for all those poor unfortunates that Hell has abducted on the open zee to row their boats. He can inconvenience the devils and their works.

Would Sinning Jenny, a tool of Mr Wines, do any of that? Doubtful. The Masters are strong appeasers of Hell and they profit heavily from the soul trade. In addition to license fees and taxes, Mr Wines benefits from soulless people seeking solace in hedonism, in wine and the Parlor of Virtue. And so does Jenny, the Parlor's leading lady.

Assuming I'm correctly getting the reference, wasn't reasonably-priced love one of the demands? In which case Jenny clearly has the lead.

  • Well, we already have that. If it were something new, i'd agreed... but it's not. unless we vote the bishop and he takes an anti-prostitution stance, in which case it'd just be another black mark on the worst candidate's record.
