The last time I heard any numbers on this was back in like 2013 I believe they said something along the lines of 20,000 active players, 200,000 total accounts? But that was years ago and FBG has really mushroomed and grown rapidly since then. The next insight we have into this came around 2015, and that's where they blogged that Sunless Sea sold over 100,000 copies in its first three weeks of being released http://www.failbettergames.com/sunless-sea-sales-and-funding-deep-dive-part-iii-early-access-and-final-release/
So- probably more than what TheThirdPolice said. I don't have an exact number, but this would be a good question to ask in an AMA or such if the opportunity rises in the future.
