Your character as an NPC

Rysiek Posts: 693 5/7/2016	I wonder, and think this thread fits the best, what would you character be in the sequel to FL, (hopefully Fallen Manhattan! Or Paris Tombée!). I mean something like the cheery man, a mayor crime boss, a simple writer or a detective on your trial for a few centuries? Diptych Administrator Posts: 3493 5/9/2016	The challenge in converting a PC into an NPC is trimming off their extraneous protagonist-y traits so that they can fit into a useful niche. Sir Fred already works reasonably well as the Esotericist - a rather eccentric on-again off-again academic with an interest in the Fallen Cities. Hubris' role as a noble with underworld ties is already taken by The Baronet of the early game - two of them would be an extravagance. Juniper is protagonist through and through, and a peculiarly gothic protagonist at that - lost family, tragic upbringing, dark and unsettling destiny - so I don't think she'd work at all. Esther's role as a go-between for hardened revolutionaries and high-society sympathisers is butting up against the likes of the Affluent Photographer, but overall I think she'd work well as an NPC - a devoted party secretary with pistol up her sleeve, perfectly placed to serve as an unexpected ally or enemy. edited by Sir Frederick Tanah-Chook on 5/9/2016 -- Sir Frederick, the Libertarian Esotericist. Which is to say -- of course -- that they shall be nothing like what they are now, save a tiny handful of things: They shall appear from the Zee or from Mirrors, they will reveal truths they ought not know, they shall always possess a hunger for life's passions in both joys and griefs, and they shall always possess a certain felinity in their nature. Nigel Overstreet Posts: 1220 5/23/2016	Considering we know that the next fallen city will likely be Paris around the time of the 1910’s, I suspect The Romantic Egotist will thrive in Paris’ art scene of the 1920’s. From writers like Hemingway and Sinclair Lewis, to the theatre of Antonin Artaud to the innovative artistry of Picasso and Matisse, The Egotist would fit right in. He might even inspire a young Scott Fitzgerald. And he would, undoubtedly, have an acquaintance with a young Anais Nin. He brings a firsthand account of the Aestheticism, and its practitioners, of the late 19th century these artists much admired. Kylestien Posts: 749 5/21/2016	I would be The Distracted Researcher, someone who has done plenty of research on every mystery of The Neath, but keeps getting distracted by other mysteries before he can make significant discoveries or progress. Still, he's the guy to go to if you want a Beginner's Guide to some of the neath's bigger mysteries, because he knows a little about a lot. edited by Kylestien on 5/21/2016 -- I will accept all actions, though I hold the right to refuse for my own reasons. Professor Strix Posts: 616 5/8/2016	If the next city takes as much time as London took to fall after the Fourth City, we still don't know which country will be powerful enough to host the Sixth City. Personally, I doubt it will be Paris, and I have my reservations on Manhattan. But well. I'm reasonable certain that Prof. Strix will still be around when the Sixth City comes. Not that she would want to, mind you, I just don't think that a few lifetimes are enough for her to lift her curse and convince that darned boatman to stop holding a grudge and let her pass already. She would keep her name, but to go with the naming theme of NPCs, she would either still use "the Inescapable Professor" (no reason to chage it), or, to be funnier, "the Suspiciously Blood-Stained Detective". -- The Inescapable Professor, London's Most Academic Detective. Kukapetal Posts: 1449 5/21/2016	I've written a bit about my main character, always from another FL character's POV, and he is referred to as the "Outlandish Ruffian." By the time a potential sequel rolled around, he'd probably be a broken hearted, drunken wreck who alternates between crying into his beer and getting into drunken (and ultimately unsatisfying) debauchery. And, of course, he'd always be quick to drop what he's doing and rush to the rescue if he sees someone in trouble (though his effectiveness in actually stopping mischief may have diminished significantly by then :P )

So does the little sorrow spider on her shoulder. If you give her honey or cider or the right absinthe, she might tell you something really interesting, when her eyes clear. I even changed my SN name to reflect, so now accepted social actions read "The Mourning Manager has accepted your invitation to chess" and so on. -- Where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep. The Absurd Rogue Posts: 1049 5/7/2016	Elias/Anton would probably end up falling in with the Mafia if it were based in Manhattan. That would be a very interesting turn of events actually! I imagine he'd be The Absent Consigliere in that case! As for Ezekiel, they would probably end up being a vagrant or a construction worker. Something low-key and conformist while they pursue whoever they're after in this time period. They might be something like The Consumed Man-Hunter or some such. -- "There is never another story. If he gets his hearts desire there will be a magnificent flourishing garden thriving inspite the apparent lack of sunlight. If not, he will grow parasitic plants such as monotropa as well as fungi. It's also heavily hinted at that he is part plant himself, or at least host to them. I was aiming for eldritch plant, his hair and beard are green tinged, but clearly not done enough.
