Yeah, I remember because I was surprised to see you lose them at the end. (Admittedly, I did use mine trying to poison all of the monkeys (I was pretty disappoonted with that))

It's odd that it's an inventory item and not just a quality. I believe the mansion key is just a quality.

I believe than being a bleeding-heart, liberal lady, I made a choice to keep me awake at nights... which is the point of Fallen London anyway, right? No perfect endings - no ending really. I loved the happy child and the way his existence provides choices in the end.

That's strange. I've done this story on two different accounts and I don't think I ever encountered the happy child.

I only encountered them on my run through when I "Perhaps Not"ed out of the Cellars - after I'd got out of the cage, but before I'd done anything to formally leave the cellars.

Here's how I ended it:
Since I drank the tea out of curiosity and got poisoned, I decided to poison Vespasian for revenge. This was less out of any moral consideration, and more because I was offended at having been poisoned and wanted Vespasian to suffer the same. This does immediately lead to all the apes being locked up in the labyrinth of tigers, and I didn't learn much about the apes' plan.
Does anyone have the text of what happens if you make a deal with Vespasian? I'm curious what occurs. And is it possible to eliminate Vespasian and reach an understanding with the rest of the apes?

I don't see anyone who posted my option, so I
Ground up my knowledge stat, convinced the other one to go home, and then convinced Vespasian to go home. All I got was a primaeval hint and a followup in my lodgings where I got the Prize. Also some threatening.
I echoed both of my dealings with V, but not with his underling.
I chose to let the Merchant Captain set the trap, even though I could've won the duel because I wanted to make sure his family escaped. I wasn't the happiest with the ending, but that mostly because I wanted to rescue the monkeys in the basement. No tears over V himself.
Has anyone echoed what happens if you have a pentecost ape when speaking to Mr Inch in the House of Chimes?

From my understanding I can't get a pentecost ape until the next feast of the rose but If I want to keep this story I have to play the no-ape option now so I can't try out the alternative option without having to rebuy the story later which costs real world money.

Is this correct?

Going to chime in: if you've started the story already in the House of Chimes (if the game has told you you can now play it 'at your leisure') then you don't need to rebuy it or be an Exceptional Friend. It's been unlocked.

As far as I understand, you won't be able to play it twice without rebuying it. However, if you unlock it (i.e. finish the House of Chimes part) now but don't play it, it should just sit at the top of your storylets forever until you aquire your ape and proceed with it. More experienced players may wish to chip in on this.

You are correct, Kirr. I don't recall if the unlock is before Mr. Inch will comment on your Ape or not, but suincide was kind enough to provide them an echo.

There is another point in the story where you can make optional use of your own Ape, even if you don't have it when speaking to Mr. Inch in the House of CHimes, for the record.

I like Pentacost Apes, and so was happy to get a little more information about the infernal primates. However, the Flash Lay felt like weak padding that detracted from the other effect of it. Not only because I dislike Flash Lays in particular, but also because it seemed to only heighten a feeling of less content around it, like it was there for padding. Disappointing in a story I otherwise found interesting, to say the least.

To be frank, if the next Exceptional Story has a Flash lay in it, I will cancel my subscription and possibly take a break from the game entirely until this fad has worn itself out.

When is the second point? I have a pentecost ape and didn't notice a second use. But I
poisoned Vespasian so I may have missed out on some additional dialogue at the end.
Does anyone have an echo of what happens if you strike a bargain with the apes?
Your Pentacost Ape can keep Livia...distracted... so you can confront Vespasian.
I actually like Flash-Lays, although custom cards would be nice. Some of the cards don’t make sense here. Perhaps you could customize it like Heists, adding and removing some cards for each one.

Flint had a flash lay in it, but the difference was it was a custom area. All the flash lays in london are exactly the same, and that grows old pretty fast especially if you've done a bunch of flash lays already. I don't mind them as a mechanic, but the lack of diversity is rather wearisome.

Sorry to seem like a complete fool, but I am having an absolutely confusing time trying to navigate this story. I've been playing on my phone for about two weeks now, and thoroughly enjoying the game, but this story is just keeping me stuck in the cage, so to speak. And I apparently have some Rats waiting on my doorstep at home, so I would like to not keep them waiting.

From what I've read on this thread so far, I think I've deduced how to solve at least part of my problem, but in order to solve that problem, I need to access a room that for some reason I can't find. I've played through this story quite a few times only to restart either due to running out of time or resetting because I was certain I'd run out.

I know that you gain access to the different rooms in the house based on... reasons, I guess, I can't tell what triggers that. And I know that there is a certain room in which a certain ape may appear at a certain time. However, every single time I've run through this story, that room never appears. I don't know how to get there. I don't know if I'm just not in the right place at the right time, or if I'm not unlocking it, or if it disappears, or if my game is bugged, or what. But I can't seem to find what is apparently the one room I need to access in order to finish the story properly. So I keep looping back to the cages again.

I know that there are rules about spoilers and such, but I've been trying this story for about two days in real time, and several storyline "days" now. I don't know how to do the spoilers marker here (just signed up for the forums to ask this), so I guess I'm probably just asking for help blind here.

Sorry to bother everyone with such ramblings. I'm just not sure what else to try.
