Well, they can be snagged from quite a few places actually. Robbing the Duchess's jewelry box, if I remember right? And the Labyrinth of Tigers has Mr. Stones's shop, which gives either diamonds or sapphires when visited.

At lower skills I believe these are frequently a reward from random opportunity cards. A certain race may provide them and there's currently a thread about obtaining gems where one can make a request.

I greatly enjoy meeting delicious new friends and participating in deliciously exciting new adventures! Please feel free to drop a card to meet for dinner, exchange favors, give an interview, or any other activity that comes to mind. I DO particpate in exchanges requiring Fate, BUT you must contact me first; twitter, facebook, or here on the forums via PM.

Note: I am currently exchanging parcels with a large number of dear friends and my parcel opportunities are rare. I am always willing to exchange but your rate of return may be rather slow. To find others to exchange with I recommend the Starveling list.

I'm finding Diamonds everywhere personally. I think I have more than 20 atm without trying, and I've sold more than that this month, without getting PoSI (though I'm just 2 ranks in Shadowy away from finishing the stat requirements yay!)

It's worth mentioning that the cane also grants +1 bizarre, which seems to be invaluable lately.

*sigh* As soon as I get the rubies to complete the cane, the Lapidary avoids me like the plague. I'm not sure if the Dark Lady hates me, or is flirting with me.....

That's quite a common occurrence. Either Murphy's laws are extremely true (they are), or FBG coded a tweak in the chance of the card appearing just to adapt the game to real life XD

Well, I've competed in the Shroom hopping race and received 2 lovely red stones. How many do I actually need? I have no problem continuing the racing, but if I stop, I am not sure if it will come back. (Keen eyed Lapidary will want one?)

Eek. Well. I have three. Good thing I have my running shoes on! Back to the races!
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'd rather get them all at once. Hopefully I won't need more latter...

You shouldn't. The only other ways to spend Venom Rubies, as I recall, is to either give then as gifts in the Lofty Square or if you are pursuing the Jewel Thief.
Though if you do decide to do that, then there is an option to get more in the Bazaar Sidestreets.

I feel like requiring 5 Venom-Rubies wasn't the best move. The Keen-Eyed Lapidary was a relatively low-level storylet, so the only option for the new player was to either go Shroom-Hopping or ask on the forums. And as many players might not know of or use the forums, they really should add more options to get rubies for low-level players.

It really depends. For me, I went Shroom-Hopping anyway, so rubies were not a problem. Sapphires was the reason I had to put it off until PoSI. Never found a reliable way to get them.

There's a VERY reliable way to get them, it just involves giving up something that you probably had no need for anyway . . .

You can also rely on rare successes when throwing lizards at the Carnival. Either that or exploiting the honey-dewed thief/honey-sipping heiress. That's how i got my sapps, anyhow...

Additionally, when I did the storylet there was no official forum. There were unofficial forums, at least they claimed to be I have no real way of knowing, but they were mostly dead or dying and not accepting new members. Heck, the only community I was able to find before the Failbetter forums was a wiki one, and that was pretty dead as well.

News in the Neath: Noted citizen of Fallen London, Abraham Bounty, has acquired six hundred and sixty six souls. Additionally rumour has it that the lion's share of those souls was from a theft of The Brass Embasy itself. We are quite certain that this portents nothing ominous for him. Well, nothing unusually ominous anyway.

Social invitations of all kinds welcome, especially games of chess and deadly sparring!

Also happy to help with nightmares, send sips of Cider, and plant battle.

Well, I can not comment on that forum as the one I tried to join not less than three times and never got a confirmation e-mail was http://fallenlondon.org.uk

But at this point, even if they are not dead, they are dead to me.

Bummer. I signed up recently and hope I'd get to see what's inside.
