I believe it's mostly about the repeated sales of one's soul in general - the Fate option for getting your soul back was changed at some point alongside or after the bundle shift to more dramatically increase the price as you use it.

The whole reason that Something Unexpected was moved in the first place was that fishing with the Fisher-kings in the Flit and selling one's soul via the soul trade What Profit? card was close to three epa. Moving the necessary bundle value from 100 to 200 brought it out of range of most grindable methods and more importantly effectively halved the profit involved.
