I try to keep around 5 or 6 CoC. That's usually the number of Tomb Colonists cards I get in a week.
Then I go into the Nadir (possibly get a point or two of Dramatic Tension), and take a hit to my stats. I then use the War of Assassins to regain my lost stats (alternating actions) until I again got hold of 5-6 CoC. That's usually most of the way back to max stats anyway (the rest is taken care of throughout the week by regular playing).
This way I don't have an overabundance of CoC, and grinding for them serves a dual purpose of regaining Nadir-reduced stats.

I slow down my CoC grinding by doing a more profitable grind that, like selling the CoC, is also card-based. This means earning Dramatic Tension via "Doing Business at Wilmot's End," which also nets you an extra 0.45 echoes, on average, every time you grind enough DT for a Collection -- raising the EPA to about 1.8.
If on top of that you also wait at Doing Business at Wilmot's End 4 and, instead of grinding in Wilmot's End, wait for the "A New Move in the Game" card to appear, you'll complete a Collection of Curiosities in somewhere between 29 and 35 actions, since that card gives you double CP 20% of the time. If you only relied on that card, you'd average 32.5 actions for an EPA of 1.94 -- but you're likely to have to pass up multiple Tomb-Colonist cards if you do that. So I keep my DBaWE at 4 as much as possible until a Tomb-Colonist card shows up, and then finish a Collection. It means my Collections don't pile up, and I end up with around a 1.83 EPA. (Unless I draw Old Bones or Woods in Winter in the Nadir, which boosts it a bit, once a week.) edited by metasynthie on 2/1/2016

An alt of mine just got the Woods in Winter 3 times in the Nadir! So it can happen but as the Nadir's cards are undiscardable it is based entirely on the RNG being kind to you if you visit.
As for the stat loss I don't think it is a major problem for regular players as it is relatively easy to recover.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Am I the only one who is inspired to grind for a Collection of Curiosities only after getting the Tomb-Colonists card?

Probably you are one of the a few doing that. Because of our love-hate relationship with RNG, people usually keep a buffer. I did that, too. But 34 actions usually doesn't exsist when you get the card. Also when RNG loves us, it throws a few of tomb colonies cards to our way so better to have a few at hand.

If I didn't have the actions I used to simply hold on to the card until I could do the grind, which would usually happen in the evening (though this meant, of course, that I couldn't receive the card until then, were I to be so fortunate). Lately, though, I thought I'd try out riding with the Mercies. The first time went well (for a crazy ride with half-dead women, anyway), but the second time I failed. And again. And again and again and again. I lost count, but it was more than five failures in a row. I couldn't believe I had lost so many cards and expensive bottles for nothing. In the end I did succeed, and it turned out this was as far as the acquaintance would progress, apparently. Hrmph.

It's definitely nice to have a few Collections stocked up beforehand - I can't count the number of times I've drawn the card practically back to back. Not to mention that I usually have stuff I'm really wanting to do that moment, so I'd rather have one long stretch of getting the Collections rather than having it randomly interrupt me on an almost daily basis (between four characters, that is). -- edited by Sara Hysaro on 2/3/2016
