I was wondering not how but when to use the Making Waves options that's generated via your lodgings. I'm also wondering which lodgings options gives you the most bang out of the buck er... echoes.
I find that I can buff my Notability from 0 to 6 without investing in these lodgings and earning from "A Polite Invitation" and "Life of Mind" at the same time. So I assume that these lodgings become more important as you climb up to Notability 15?

The only Lodging that directly affects generating Waves is the Handsome Townhouse, which can be turned into either an Orphanage or a Salon. (The Salon is the clear winner when it comes to Wave production, but some people prefer the Orphanage for RP reasons or bleeding liberal hearts or what have you).
There are a few other options, like the supper with spider cultists option on the Cottage by the Observatory card, whereby you exchange an expensive thing for MW but those are suckers bets, and should only be used to sate one's curiosity or in a bid of desperation before TtH decimates your MW.

Ambushing smuglers is good to use if you have strong backed labour lying around. Because strong backed labour becomes useless and seling price is not great. It is best used when you need one last push to make enough MW for next point of notability. Like when you need 30 MW and you are at 29. It is waste of resources to use salon in this kind of circumstances.

Bring the celebration home
from the Tower of Sparrows used to be the best thing for when you needed lots and lots of MW, but it's been nerfed a few weeks or months ago. The other lodgings options aren't really that great IMO. The Fate-locked option on the Windward Tower gives a lot though, and has some great writing.
