I've been meaning to ask if there are any ways to get around a Noman's death. NiteBrite talked about how he preserved his Noman for an extra week by sitting on the Noman's Progress card with enough PTPT: Lacre to give her enough juice to keep her preserved. I wonder, could someone wait on a Tear of the Bazaar so that when Time the Healer does the opposite of healing to the Noman you could swoop in and save your snowy companion with a swig of liquid melancholy?

Nope, all Noman healing options require Noman's Friend 1+.

ALSO. It seems smart to keep the Noman price watch in my main post as opposed to here:

Well first I had requested it get patched via bug report. Then it didn't get patched. So I announced plans to do it, (long after it was no longer relevant to my grind) just to show it could be done. Then I did it. Then I explained to everyone how to do it. Then I encouraged people to do it.

And then it got patched.

That's not to say I played any role in it actually getting patched, as who knows maybe it was planned to be fixed all along. But in any case, the card exploit was a glaring giant loophole that threatened the integrity of the noman grind, and one which was easily fixed by adding a Noman's Friend 1+ requirement to a single story branch. So I am glad it did in fact get fixed whatever the reason.

I dunno. It just bugs me whenever there is a big problem or break that goes unnoticed and unfixed for a long time even when reported. That's why I believe in structured and gradual escalation, in a friendly way, as a means to effect positive change especially when it comes backed by community support and involvement.

Some things:

1. As of today the Taste of Lacre cost of the Noman is 12. It's a little sad because I had hoped to be able to pop my Noman after my Jan. 27 Time the Jerk. I don't see that being possible unless they wait a full week to do the final price increase.

2. I'm doing the run. 17 buckets, 11 Tears currently.

Why 12? That breaks the 3-5-7-9 pattern. I think someone forgot to increase the price, and in an effort to make it seem like this was intentional they've chosen a midway cost. Which is both neat and saddening. The pattern! How could FBG?

Also, added you to the list.

I just lost my Noman on my second Time the Healer since buying him. At Noman Knows 14 and 2/3rds. Can someone at least send me the text for what succeeding would have been?
There's no way to save him before resolving the autofire storylet, right? I tried my bottle of tears and my bucket of snow...

Unfortunately, no. All I can console you with is with the text:

I got nervous about next week's Time the Healer and went ahead and purchased Alan (my noman). This means that I should have to go through 4 Time the Healers, which is unfortunate, but ce la vie.

    I'm at 17 buckets, 11 tears, 8 ToL.

My dearest Peggy was born just before bed time yesterday on the 20th, and I'm happy to report that after 24 hours we are one dose away from our NMF goal. If only she could be with me forever.

I wound up being pretty much spot on with my estimates and I've used 23 pails and 4 tears. Touch wood and all should be well. Now to decide what to do with the spares!

For those of you who have or who are making a noman, please let us know how much Nomans friend you have after using your supplies, and how many pails/tears you used total.

Currently my Noman and I are sitting comfy on a Noman's Friend of 496, PTPT: Lacre 12, a Tear of the Bazaar, and just short of a Night-Whisper to getting one more pail of lacre (that I may or may not end up getting). Originally, I started off with 12 Tears of the Bazaar, around 32 Pails of So-Called Snow (28 bought from the Urchins card), and about 7 PTPT: Lacre from access codes and Sacksmas options.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I used up a few buckets on getting a Dark-Carapaced Crustacean and An Infernally Diplomatic Privilege. I don't remember how much the Privilege cost, but I know that I only had to use 2 buckets to get my new pet.

Now that I've drawn the card again, I'm up to 364 NMF and 11 taste. I believe I gathered 32 pails and 13 tears to prepare, and I had 4 taste left over from last year, so I used two buckets, a tear (which was not consumed, yay!) and Mr Sacks to get to 15 and then 23 buckets and 4 tears to sustain her. I've used 3 of my spare buckets to get back to 11 taste just in case, and I'll probably spend the rest of my stuff on M______ B____ and gambling for a crustacean friend.

ETA: Does anyone know off hand how much fate it costs to reset Lilac's conversation?

The wiki says it costs 10 fate to reset the conversation. It's 50 fate to reset a tattoo, if, you know, if there's no 3rd tattoo this year which is possible. So if you are doing a noman run, and have two tattoos already, be aware this is possible. Personally I hope there is a third tattoo option this year because I want a heptagoat tattoo haha ;-)

I am already planning on paying the costs if there is no third tattoo option. I just hope I don't have to undo my second tattoo in order to redo my first tattoo.
