Technically he and the Secular Missionary are still married, are they not? Although things are clearly on very much less-than-intimate grounds between them following the expedition into the Nadir...

I would be thrilled to see such option, but unfortunately, he is not a marriage candidate.

If I had to choose, I would be torn over him or Once-Dashing Smuggler. Both married, unfortunately upset

Am I the only one to find potential spouses in the game really lackluster? They seem bleak and generic to me, and I know that Failbetter team can write charming and memorable characters. I hope someday some new content will be added or current options rewritten.

Upon getting the Firebrand, IIRC there's text saying they can be upgraded and eventually wedded.

I agree, there are so many interesting npc love interests I've encountered over the course of the game who I would have loved to hook up with over these generic spouse options. Heck, if we could get some of them as Feast Companions I'd be happy, because at least then I could pretend they're my spouse :P

Maybe someday...

Passionario: It depends upon what class of spouse you obtain. The Model and the Thief are the lowest class (and the game implies that you're only "common law" spouses, no ceremony involved). Better are the spouses you can get with Fate through Wilmot's End, such as the Cultured Attache (male or female): +1 Watchful, +1 Persuasive, +1 Committed. Best of all is the coveted Player to Player union, which gives + Committed and also +1 to each of the basic stats: Watchful, Persuasive, Dangerous, and Shadowy. The nice thing about a Spouse is that you don't lose their bonuses, ever, so long as you have them.

However, note that the Thief and Model have opportunity cards (and the thief's is quite good, at least). I don't know about Fate locked spouses and I was under the impression that the player spouses didn't have a card.

The Foreign Office spouses do not have opportunity cards, but the Boneless Consort does. The latter is nice if you want Trembling Amber, though it isn't a lucrative grind.

They're hardly priority content, but I admit I'd be happy to see the Spouses get a bit of a content boost overall, and I'd absolutely adore to see the hinted-at spousal options - the Missionary, the Firebrand, the Deviless - be implemented. I'd be so chuffed. Double-chuffed.

People on Tumblr asked few times about new spouses, and Failbetter replied (aside from "all shall be well") that there is a chance they'll add new options in time for Feast of the Rose. Of course it's a tiny chance, as they are working on iPhone app now, but one can hope.

I want polygamy implemented! How am I to decide between all the beautiful characters (who aren't even marriage options)? I'll admit that my pirate poet has stolen my heart. Who doesn't want a badass animated lump of clay to be their wife?

    But my drownie!

Polygamy is, to some degree, already possible. You can only legally be married to one person, though, and honestly, i think this makes sense with most divorce laws- the more people you mary, the higher and more complex- and expensive- divorces get, both in terms of legal fees and how much you need to give to your ex.

I know it's not a thing that will ever be implemented (it could be abused for stats) but I swear, if they ever introduce multiple compelling marriage options I'll seriously consider packing us all up and moving (with a time machine I guess) to Vegas! We'll make our living through reality TV if we must! "Sibling Spouses" here I come...
