So, I seem to have misplaced my soul. Again. Mostly so that I could obtain the Infernal Privilege by way of Lacre. Last time it happened (thanks to a certain Quiet Deviless), I used the fate-locked option for retrieving it - it was very interesting! But I have no particular interest in just replaying that little storyline, especially not when it's gotten so much more expensive...
But then, how DO I go about it? Well, the obvious answer is that I have to get it from Opening a Bundle of Oddities. But I remember talk about values being adjusted to make this harder, a while back. So I'm not sure how far I can trust the wiki with regards to what oddity-sources are viable. I gather there are several opportunity-cards that can do the trick, but that's fairly chancy. Suppose I want to be ACTIVELY seeking my soul. What, then, is the recommended approach? IS there even any way to actively grind towards soul-retrieval?
Oh, and I've already completed the University, so The Student Body is no longer available to me - assuming that one actually could have worked...

The easier option on one's public card is the best bet while in London, and at sea its Hoist the Black Flag, which I believe you'll end up drawing more due to the smaller number of cards. These two should be your best options. edited by suinicide on 1/12/2016

Also, draw your cards while in Wolfstack Docks, as both the "Wolfstack in the Fog" and "Bonfire of the Decencies" cards have a chance to return a soul. (For the former, adjust the airs until you can select "Crying His Wares", and then select "A little extortion" for a Dangerous check that gives a Bundle; for the latter, "Grab whatever you can carry" is a low odds check on a rare card, but if you succeed it grants a bundle that the wiki asserts goes all the way to 1008.)

Speaking as the "What Profit" soul-selling player, I also echo using the "One's Public" or "Hoist the Black Flag" drawn cards when at Zee (as once you progress past the University Investigations, there are no more storyettes that easily draw the range like the Urchins used to.)
While the two mentioned above are standard frequency, Wolstack's draws are Rare Frequency and requires you to be in that locale (if needing another location such as locating the Flit's "Call in Favours in the Flit" for example, and some other Rare cards like Mood cards don't require location camping.)
Also, I highly recommend against The Bonfire of the Decencies selection Grab whatever you can carry option that is the only qualifying bundle. First, you have to draw that rare card which is at best a 10% draw rare compared to Standard card draws (and you know how hard even those standard draws are in a large deck.) Secondly, when you choose the Grab whatever you can carry option, you have to succeed in the same luck check for lowering Nightmares from A Merry gentleman: The odds are against you here or 40%. And after all that-assuming you draw the rare Card and make a 40% Luck check-you then have the "Privilege" of drawing a 1-1008 Bundle of Oddities check. For that low-end odds making, you'd be better off making an arrangement here with another person and swap bulk bundles of Gifts for 10 Echoes each. (The rewards gotten from the gifts often come close to, repay, or can even exceed the future sending costs, or provide vital hard-to-get tier 3-4 components when lucky.)
So if you decide to camp Wolfstack Docks, do farm Crying his wares or the redirect from The Ragman's Barge off of the Wolfstack in the Fog rare card, but skip The Bonfire of the Decencies.
And even at best a 1-400 chance, don't expect instant success. This will likely take a while.
But if you do gain that soul or even a rare denizen from the Mythical Multiple Mycelium (aka, a Blemmigan Secretary,) let us know!

Hmmm... well, I HAD been meaning to take a sea-journey. For science, you understand. Might be a good chance to engage in some opportunistic piracy - I certainly DO remember running into that 'hoist the black flag' option any number of times during my previous sojourns.
