I just can't figure out this merry gentleman fellow. If you greet him, he raises your nightmares, but upon failing the ignore him option, he leaves your nightmares the same. Is this supposed to happen? It kind of nullifies the first option.

I just noticed if you try to record "why is it so easy to get lost in Fallen London?" The title changes to "What are they trying to hide?"

Tell me about it. I've been ignoring him for weeks now - when will he just get the message that nobody likes him? I like him! I don't like his effect on my sanity, but then, that's hardly his fault. And he certainly acts his age- he's a paragon of sanity for it, in fact.

Aw come on, how can you be so heartless and NOT greet him? The fella just wants you for his little collection, is all!

Apparently, the physical representation of insanity is also susceptible to bribes of gemstones. Then again, who isn't?

I can't help it. My nightmares are always through the roof and I've developed an almost visceral loathing to seeing that d-bag's card pop up :P So cruel! :O I LOVE IT! Failbetter, please make this a legit story option!

Isn't he that Awkward Friend from the Flash Lay?
Actually, I really like this bloke. He has a sad story but a good attitude. I choose to greet him every time I meet him. Cause that's just the guy I am. Stupid.

I've read some time ago on the forums a spoiler as to the potential real (or, actually, mythical) identity of this gentleman, and it blew my mind (it was like reading an actual Searing Enigma on the forums!).
You need to understand a bit of First City lore and meet his previous lover as part of the Heart's Desire Ambition, but if so it's possible to make the connection to certain... Gilgameshian characters
Not something I would have ever figured out on my own.

It seems a bit odd to approach a strange and disturbing man on the street and offer him precious jewels. But I guess if it works... That's why it's fate locked- the fate is for the inspiration in the first place, not for the results.

After all
if you had a love affair when you ruled the First City of Tell Brak and your Lover from China was dying and you sold your city so they could have a Diamond-heart implanted which exploded and created Polythreme and that lover is now an animated Statue, you'd likely end up doing something like running the Royal Bethlehem Hotel which formerly was London's Bethlem Royal Hospital Southwark for housing the Insane, and this with such 'Neath energies permeating you would cause people already going Mad to worsen talking to you or sometimes getting their Sanity back if ignoring you long enough.
edited by the truthseeker on 1/11/2016

I think of it as the difference between "suspecting something isn't right" and "embracing madness". Especially given the results of successfully ignoring him.

Now playing Esméralda, Saevitia's former helmswoman and moralistic Campaigner; she looks like this.
I'm usually up for RP. Social actions are generally accepted; those with in-character RP invitations are most likely to be reciprocated.
