is flute street essential for the fourth coil of the labyrinth? No. The Fourth coil of the Labyrinth can be done with one of the "regular" beasts captured.
I was wondering about the non-fate portion of the Labyrinth - is creating a Hound of Heaven the end of what you can do there? I find myself without any Dangerous opportunities to pursue right now.
On a similar note, I'm at a loose end in most places - I've been expelled from Court and the University and I can't seem to do anything to advance Mahogany Hall (I've completed the Affair of the Box and checked out each day's show at the Hall). What should I be doing to progress now? 'Find New Stories' from my Lodgings only offers Fate-locked content.
EDIT: After looking through this thread, I've decided to take the plunge and buy Flute Street. Love a few Rubbery Lumps. I'll probably end up getting the Empyrean Redolence stuff as well. My encounter with the Bifurcated Owl in the second coil was intriguing, to say the least, and it seems a fine thing to parade around on my shoulder.
edited by JimmyTMalice on 1/4/2016 Lessee, I'll address the fate-locked first then the other stuff. Ironically, I'll spoiler the rest as it's almost not fate related except for a Empyrean Redolence comment not spoilerable.
Yes, if you bought access to Flute Street, buying Empyrean Redolence is a no-brainer. The Bishop's story and your choice is a nice diversion as well when not trying to breed them all.
Regarding Court, that's it, no way back, goodbye. (Whist I feel it should have a reunion option like the University below, the future Governorship is supposed to replace it, but a lot of the components and connections easily done by Court are not there.)
When you get high enough, the Foreign Office available in Wiltmont's End (which is accessible through a drawn card post-PoSI) will allow you a chance to be Governor and require a ship to sail there once you do. This place is for 150-175 persuasive stats (along with the occasional watchful and other ones) when making checks, so it's more end-game. Being exiled from court is the only way to get it.
The University however, will allow you to go onto a Voyage of Scientific Discovery that allows you to brib...err, earn your way back into its halls. However, you never again gain any carousel Term Passing again. This voyage is a Sneering person drawn card or something similar. It also requires your own ship for visiting the islands needed (these papers also are related to Empyrean Redolence's final step with breeding.)
You also get unlocked post-murders a "Solving Cases around London" you just did for (optional) Flute Street access as well as end-story rewards/possible SoTC bump up to 7.
Mahogany Hall is only one step with that Da**able Box. Return to Spite and do a LOT of collecting until you get enough to turn in not the rewards of Intrigue, but the other option. Multiple times. Eventually, you'll get to choose between two Masters or expose them both (the latter requiring Doubt Street again a PoSI Thing.) If you did this final choice no matter which side chosen, you now may use the box carousel to raise it for "The rewards of Intrigue" and cash in every time you have enough value. Obviously, since you get Correspondence Plaques when siding with the People, always side with them doing the carousel is the most profitable. it's worth getting a single Turncoat if you need to change sides for this. (Changing too many times really means you need to enter a traitor's feast and get really lucky or build up revolutionaries to cash in to reset, so research which people represent which side!) Get the reward item you need most in your progression. When you don't need any of the components (and when do you not anyway) Mourning candles are the most profitable to directly sell for money-making.
That written, the Hall is used with one other war, Embroiled in the War of Illusion. To gain that story however, you need to be in The Heights of Chicanery and to get that value, you need A Name Whispered in Darkness 6. and to be there, you have to have finished becoming a Master Thief (rank 5) then successfully made off with the Big Score at Concord Square. (By then, you should be very close to Shadowy 100. It's also recommended doing the A Name Signed with a Flourish to 5 or the Inspired Romancing in Court proper as Mahogany Hall is 97+ for both Shadowy and Persuasive checks on average. If you are able to get the modified Persuasive to 100 and that Signed value is less, it's OK; the 100 Persuasive modified is the key here.)
In the Flit, once you have the value to 6, you can start trailing with the Seeking and Investigating options. You can also cash in when one (or one option when both) hit 5 rank. Rare Successes here on both the building and cashing in are the only option to build up Embroiled +1 CP at a time until your rank hits Level two (or two to three Rare Success on average.) That triggers What is going on? and allows you from the Flit to continue. Eventually, it will take you to the Hall where you can continue building up (and choosing a side or both sides, but then a side again) the value for a big show. This is as long as any Making your name/extended story endeavor, so as noted, it isn't quick.
That should answer all your questions! For non-fate things however, do ask on the appropriate threads elsewhere or PM me directly with specific questions. edited by the truthseeker on 1/4/2016

Yes, creating a Hound and the various other beast breeding for items is currently the end of the dangerous tracker and the Labyrinth storyline both. If you happen to be at zee regularly for whatever reason, catching seals and breeding them into Hounds is decently profitable and selling it to the bishop gives among other things Cellars of Wine. The only other high-level dangerous content I know of is the War of Assassins carousel, best used for Collections of Curiosities to sell on the Tomb-Colonists card as one of the best grinds in the game.
One thing you haven't mentioned is the newspaper content in Doubt Street. If you haven't already done so, go to Spite and there's a storylet to take you there unlocked after a card or Find New Stories with Shadowy 110. Starting your newspaper requires either certain items/qualities or spending PoSI crafting items so I'd recommend having the following before going there: Intimate with a Revolutionary Firebrand, Corresponding Ocelot (and you should get Empyrean Redolence alongside Flute Street anyways), Educating Lyme from Mahogany Hall, Acquaintance: Wry Functionary 3, and An Intimate With Devils 5.
