Direa Erinyes laughs, “That was good old Professor Davis, wasn’t it?” Evensong takes the mirror and examines it.

“The silver back contains the trademark bird of Amethyst and Sapphirine Co. They have a shop front in Watchmakers Hill, near the St. Francis School for Children and Overly Intelligent Animals. Though, it could always be a knock-off. It’s not like those aren’t uncommon.” She passes the mirror to Dirae Erinyes.

Dirae Erinyes takes the mirror and waves a glove hand in pattern that one would recognize from university lectures. Afterwards, they press the mirror against their clothed forehead.

“A swamp without color. . .and the mists. . .d__n, that’s all.” They give the mirror back to Kuldon. “The crack makes any worthwhile connection to the other side impossible.”

"This looks like a little bit like that mirror I saw in my vision. I remember the crack only appeared after the figurine was stolen. The night before it was perfectly intact. Maybe this mirror is connected to the one I saw." Says Koldun, deep in thought.

"A reasonable assumption with the facts so far. Where did you obtain this mirror?" Evensong replies.

"A gift, I had received it from the owner of a small shop that was selling antiquities. After I helped the owner track down a gang of thieves that stole some of his goods he gave it to me along with the payment. He said it brought fortune. I guess the opposite is true" he says, scratching his head

“Maybe they made a deal with the spiders. Ever met a spider-council? Either way, we have a host of leads. Shall we get started or should we wait for some other interested parties to join us?” Dirae Erinyes asks.

"I do not have the most. . .pleasant of appearances, I'm afraid. There is a metal squeak from underneath the cloak as they shift in their seat. "Why do you wear your mask?"

Edit: Koldun, the post I was replying to seems to have disappeared. Perhaps you should try reposting?

&quot The mask is a tool in my investigations. I find people draw less attention to those they do not wish to draw attention to. It helps me be a better detective and thief. I assure I am perfectly fine.&quot He takes of his mask to reveal the face of a young man with dark blonde hair and glasses.

I can't sorry. I deleted it because it was a copy

"Ah very good. One should always take great pains to keep one's face intact. You never know who might appreciate it." Dirae Erinye waves their hand at the tablet. "is that part of this investigation or another one?"

OOC: Don't worry, it's showing up now. Seems to have been a glitch with the forum.

" Oh this? This is the Word of Caution I purchased it in the bazaar. It's more of a tool. It provides information to me, making me more watchful." He proclaims holding it up.

"Even more so if you actually go there. What a place. Have you been to zee yet?
For investigative work, I prefer my patent scrutinizer deluxe. Especially nice with how dim London can get even with gaslight."

Nobby listens to the conversation as one sizing up the requirments not spoken. It's not simply thieving Apptitude looked for here, and the person is not making clear if they know what they are dealing with, or want to know if these hired do. So he sets it out as an "Urchin" would say it, but it's clear the School of hard Knocks is far the only Education:

"Right O! Ya wan' us t' track a 'igurine t' Parabola where the 'reatures dat live dere (or also 'ere, b' ar' much stronger) an' Swipe it fer ya, when ya' Swiped it y'self b' accident from a bein' dat is wit' Sorrow Spiders from a lan' dat is known to have Fingerkings posses ya, as ya just said 'bout Professor Davis, Koldum?

At best, it ain't an' easy Job, even if ya' gave us the Knapt y' had or once had as d' case may be. Or both if y' head too far East."

It's not clear if Koldum actually mentioned his name to this group or ever at this establishment, but Knobby said it as clearly as he said the words Parabola, Sorrow Spiders and Fingerkings. As much as "from the streets" as the former Longshanks Urchin might be, it clearly did not stop his Academic studies, or-at the very least-carefully listening to the Thunder Above, as well as his knowledge of his contacts that identified the specific owner of the Macabre Mask.
That Part's taken care of with him. Now the required part he expects, but I know He knows I'm qualified now,

"But y' likely wanna proof of Skill, and y' came t' the Party late, ya did! So 'ere's when d' others can git a new Fillin' of d' drinks, while I tell dis 'ere Patron my Talents in m' Field. I din' call it 'dis, sayin' it be braggin', but sometimes, my Heist dat got m' a Name is called The Legend of Nobby Longshanks: One Huge Score, Two-Days, Three Guidlmasters who couldn't believe he Robbed the Same Place when he was not Good Enough to Make a Name Before."
Nobby tells the tale he recently said before, surprisingly with very little Embellishment (except at the end where the traps seemed to have increased by one.)

"Well, I gots t' get a certain 'Unsigned Letter' y' know what the Hall offers 'dat fer, but it bein' tree days Late, I guess wot's a Few More Guv'nor? I kina speak f' 'ere at d' table, bu' I accept!
As Long as y' tell us our Cut, not leave any thin outta da Job (no missin' Inside info wot's really goin' on why dis all happens now,) an' y' inna goin' to Cross us of course. Even if y' kill us in the Dead Book f' Good, others will..."

Nobby looks at a certain Couple,
"...set things Square, as much as dese two can tell ya 'bout Balance and Karma. Dat goes f' former Gangs as well bein' Mine as much as m' Current one I Run. Ya stick t' Dat, an' We square!"

Again, not a hint of Cockney accent when the word Karma was used, something most outside the Oriental Lands (or at least not associated with the Widow) know of, let alone pronounce or discuss it.

Knobby looks at the others for their responses.

"I am pleased to o have you on board Knobby, although I do not think it was a Fingerking that possessed the poor professor. Any way you can help is admirable," he says reaching out his hand.

"Know there's a man who speaks my language." Dirae Erinye orders a drink for Knobby. "Your accent makes me think of home. My father had assistant from East London before it fell."

Evensong's expression is one of mild surprise, before settling down into smile. "It's nice to see that not all the smart ones end up with the Face. What do you know about the sorrow-spiders?"

As Koldun reaches out to shake Knobby's hand, his other moves to a more relaxed position, moving the mirror slightly, still held in the other hand, notably not put away [OOC: hey, I paid attention to the replies too, not just him!] Its reflection would not be noticed unless one were looking at it in its relaxed position, and only if one were directly observing it (even if appearing not to as to not give it any notice to others, as if nonchalantly observing if something was a trap or not.) Even then, with its crack, how one could be affected is perhaps one had...procured enough Memories of Light and were spending an inordinate amount of time somewhere in a Ruined city where Parabola was strong and a person's Nightmares were barely manageable and near maddening.

Needless to say, Nobby suddenly vanished.
And stayed vanished.

And stayed vanished still.
And almost as if written from those Pulp 10-pence store novels, just when this would cause others to make a fuss or write somebody off, Nobby walks into the establishment again, shortly thereafter followed by a short-looking...wait, wasn't he Loathsome-looking about twenty minutes ago? Now this Crony looks positively Horrid! (Thankfully like before for anybody who noticed, the Crony stays at the bar again.)

Nobby returns to the table with a sheepish grin and plainly states,

"Sorry 'bout that! The Cost of m' Promotion was 'havin a little talk w' the side I didn't choose in a certain Illusion war! All I kin say is..."
And his voice is still Cockney, yet the words somehow resonate clearly, as if another Force wants the message to be remembered importantly,

"Every transaction benefits both sides. Lose a soul, gain a choice. Spend an Echo, purchase a dream. Abandon your innocence and revel in experience. It is a species of magic, this transformation, a refinement to a shared and higher state of understanding...."
Knobby seems to become all himself after that, picking up without a beat knowing everything (seemingly) that was just said,
"...but time dere t' 'ere is a bidda different. Ya' lost me I guess 'bout thir-tee minutes [yes], an' I was gone for hours over dere! Time--like m' Aunt--is all relative to where an when-ya are!

An', I din't ferget! Aye Dirae, a lotta us First Knobby Windsock Urchins 'ad ancestors from da Eastenders, we did! Was da only family dat raised many o' us it was. As did me too. We speak from da way we learnt, an' we speak it still as a badge.
An' da answer Evensong is: Enough to stay Warded if ya dinna want yer eyes to become eggs! Dey also havva way oif poppin' in Reflections t' an' fro' Parabola when dey wanna or 'have been taught t'...th' 'fairly tame' ones dats bein' da latter."

Knobby returns his focus to Koldun again,
"Well, if ya know the Cant, ya know what Letter I jest gots when I returned fer me to be whats I bein' now. So allow me t' shake y' hand in accepting the deal Koldun, an' no Exits this time!"

Nobby this time offers his hand out to Koldun. His grin now seems relaxed. What earlier grin could have been considered more "enthusiastic" also could have been interpreted in other circumstances as "manic."
[OOC, well, going to the Mirror Marches and getting the Unsigned Letter in one refresh cycle! How...interesting! Better update my signature!]

He firmly shakes his hand, smiling. " Thank you very much Knobby. Your help is much appreciated." Shows Knobby the back of the mirror."I take you for someone who knows his relics, is this mirror from Amethyst and Sapphire Co, or is it a knock-off?"

"I think we are ready to begin. Unless anyone has anything to add or wants to join, we are departing." Says Koldun with flourish, gesturing towards the room vigorously, beckoning them to join him.
