It seems that Enigma has updated? Has anyone made progress towards understanding the new requirement?

This isn't anything secret or sinister. Failbetter is now a team of 14; managing that, being CEO and being creative lead on three projects, not to mention being a single dad, is already more than a 24/7 job. Writing is very time-consuming, and it's important that we train up the next generation of writers, so I've stepped back. Not without regrets, because I love writing, but Failbetter comes first.

In 2017 and onwards: who knows? I haven't sworn a dreadful oath or anything.

I must tip my hat to you folks and your superior thing finding. I look forward to a year from now when I finally figure out what to do with this clue I've found.

Some people got it quickly; if you've gone in a different direction, it might help if I say that the relevant form is also 'quick', possibly twice.

Something seems to be up with hidden qualities in general. Obscurity had a gold border around it at some point this morning and now it's gone. I wonder if the requirement is just hidden or if something has happened to remove it altogether.

Well, this is Fallen London. It started before Storynexus, and it's still being worked on from both a technical and story standpoint. Storynexus is a good guideline, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that Fallen London is under the very same rules.

I am afraid to point this out, as it spells potential long-term to permanent stagnation in Ambition:Enigma, but Ratmas 2016 came and went without any new updates (to my knowledge).

As The Maker once said,
I've added a small Enigma update in honour of [Ratmas]. I might make that a 7th Dec tradition.

I recognize that He is no longer with Failbetter, but the tiny hope that this Enigma tradition would stick is now quashed. Lamentations!

I have the thing and can confirm that Enigma 3 is not out.
For the update, the starting point is enough I think.

I should thank you as well. Fallen London has been a big part of my life for around a year and a half now, both the game and community. Without all the effort you and the rest of Failbetter have put in I wouldn't have stayed hooked. It's been a great ride and I can't wait to see what lies ahead.

The Enigma 7 option has been in The Seeking Road since it appeared shortly after Old SMEN went on hiatus, so if it's a hint or an intention it's not a new one.

@Sara Hysaro Right, thanks! I like the idea of invisible qualities.

As usual with Enigma, don't overthink it! If you've come all the way here, it should be really straightforward. And believe me, I know how frustrating this kind of advice is...

that option which changed today (a name? a place? the name of a place? the place of a name?) always lead to a minor message or is that new? [/spoiler]

Sorry for the vague vagary but I'm trying to keep the mystery alive.

As far as I know, yes, it always led to a "minor message".

I'll use this opportunity to confess my undying love for your craftsmanship, Alexis. Enigma, even in its current embryonic form, is probably one of my favourite parts of Fallen London - exactly the kind of cerebral fun that a mind like mine craves. If only other browser games did this...

Lovely little update. Much as I've come to expect from Enigma, it is, as others have mentioned before me, quite easy to over-analyze the little details. Expecting as such did not stop me from nearly being lead astray by my own namesake, however. Ta ha. Touché, Alexis!

    Be precise
    , indeed.

I will happily provide some hints of my own if prompted to via private message. This also extends to Enigma 1, 2, or the Eggshell, if so desired.

Enigma isn't really a story so much as an amusing meta-fictional journey. You can't have an ending in mind for something that never really had a beginning. Most of the fun in Enigma is figuring out how to get in.
