A while back, Mr Shepherd asked if I would keep a list of all those who have Hesperidean Cider. Now that I am qualified to do so, here is that list.
For sips, I find these are excellent guidelines.

WHOSO THIRSTETH AND DRINKETH OF THIS, SO SHALL HE NEVER DIE

And now another in the club? What may one do with eternity? I'll have to consider this for a while. Perhaps grow out of the attraction to silly worldly things eventually? Ha. In the meantime, I'll be around and social for a good while if anyone has any needs. Whilst I don't appreciate rats in the way that others I'm sure do, I don't mind any other request that might help you.

Chess? Sparring? Coffee? All good. In a pinch the occasional loitering is fine as well. I'm a proud Advocate, happy to visit those of you with a Salon of your own. Searching for information on a mysterious photographer? I'd be happy to help a bit.

Need a sip now and again? Simply let me know~

Finally, after almost two years of grinding, I procured the Cider just in time for Sackmas. My main spent like 600 years at Port Carnelian for this, so I guess he earned a little holiday. While he respectably tastes the beverage, I’ll be over here, doing my victory (or finally done with massive grind) dance.

Immortal. Rich. Only moderately insane.

Want a taste of immortality? Reach out to me in-game to ask for a sip of Hesperidean Cider. Please follow Ocelot's guide to asking here.

New to our dark city? Send me a message in-game and I will respond when I can with a welcome gift!

I welcome most social actions, so feel free to send them to me. Just please don't ask me to Loiter Suspiciously or to help with the Affluent Photographer. I have disavowed all knowledge of her.

AND SO SHALL I NEVER DIE!

At long last, I have finally purchased my Cider. That only took about 2 years. To celebrate I gazed into Heart's Mirror and laughed as the boatman scurried away. For those of you who like numbers, I did some data entry before emptying my house of valuables so you can find the full recipe here.

So much grinding. So many things. I'd like to petition that this thread be renamed to "Cider Club: Why own things when you can own thing?"

I only get asked for sips once every few weeks. Far fewer than ocelot, but I've not had it as long and ocelot made the handy little guide everyone follows.
I did, however, send a sip of Cider to everyone on my contact list. All 940 of them. I have way too many contacts from 5 years and 4 months of playing and I thought this would be the best way to see who is and is not still active in the game.

If someone wanted more, they'd just have to ask.

I see now in your original announcement on getting the cider that you've included the screenshot, and your message also uses the same text (with male pronoun). It would have been quite a nice touch if this was modified to reflect the gender of the Cider's owner.

Yeah, but I'm playing as mysterious-and-indistinct, so unless FL is going to embrace the singular-they (which frankly I wouldn't mind, I find the Sir-Ma'am-uh-what rather tedious), I'm willing to accept the archaic universal-he in what does appear to be a quote from an archaic text.

Grinding to get Cider takes a few years of gameplay. Over the years, more people started playing Fallen London, so the number of people that have a lot of in-game money keeps increasing. Therefore, the rate in which more people can afford such things as Cider or the Heptagoat is increasing.

Also, Favours are more profitable than Connected. Adding the Mayor card with free Docks Favours is huge.

Oh, and Artful is the latest Cider owner: http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Artful

New ridiculous goal: feed Cider to seven Heptagoats and try to combine them into a Nonquadragoat. Almost certainly a colossal waste of time, but then again, you never know.

My first post on these forums: A declaration of my intention to one day join these ranks.

Two questions for existing Cider bearers:

1. Is there anyone that definitely does or definitely does not want to give out sips (after receiving the 4 Echo option from The Neath's Mysteries)? Kind folks an_ocelot and dov have recently given me sips (thanks again), wondering if anyone else wants to put themselves down as willing or unwilling. It looks like Nigel is open to it?
2. Is there any benefit to building up the Taste of the Garden quality, rather than eagerly playing a card as soon as I draw it?

It's very much in my character's interest to be exploring this as much as possible now that he knows about it, so he wants sips from anyone willing to give him one.

Thanks and congrats to all of you. Someday. starry-eyed

I'm open to multiple requests, if the social action used is a useful one. The Neath's Mysteries is probably best, as it is mutually beneficial, even when taking into account the two actions needed (one to accept, and one more to send a sip).

(The most beneficial for me would be sending First City Coins, as that gives me 7.5 echoes with no action needed in order to accept! But this is the worst option for you, as this just costs you 7.5 echoes).

Kelo Eswe wrote:

Not really. If you want to sample all of the Cider dream cards you'll need multiple points of Taste of the Garden, but you don't have to accumulate them. As long as you have one point of Taste of the Garden, the relevant Dream cards will be added to your deck.

I actualy have a question to ask any and all Cider holders while we are here, and I apologise for any inpertinence or greed: I'm curious how often you lot get asked for a sip of Cider, and (Assuming you don't much get asked) what would be good ettiquie if one wanted fairly regular sips. Not for myself I must add (Although I would not say no to such being really greedy and hedonistic) but I wanted to surprise one who I married with the odd sip now and again. I thought giving him a few tastes of immortality would be a nice present, and since I lack the Cider myself...

I also want to say thank you to everyone on this list who give out sips to everyone else either when asked or just freely to anyone. You do a good thing with your power, and I hope to one day return the favor to others. In fact I might make a thread on it...

--
I will accept all actions, though I hold the right to refuse for my own reasons. However, if you explain WHY you send me a harmful action like Loitering or Dantes,And I feel the reason good, I will consider it more. http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Kylestien

Wow!

I was having trouble managing my contact list so I ruthlessly purged EVERYONE off it and keep it that way--people come on for requests, and once their request is done I delete them, that way I can tell easily when people come back to the Fifth City and can receive their Cider sip or whatnot.

Not silly at all. I didn't think someone who didn't have cider should be the one keeping a public record of who did and did not have it. Make it slightly prone to abuse. It's entirely my own, personal hang up.

I haven't tried this myself (yet), but I've asked NiteBrite this exact question a while back.

Apparently, you still go on the boat, but there's an option (unlocked by the Cider) to spook the boatman (you're not on hist list) and he brings you back to life in a single action.

A few times a day at least--it comes and goes--and if people are sending a bunch of requests, then like I say in my post, a more mutually-profitable option is appropriate, but if you have no luck pulling cards, you can always just send a bunch of coffee requests and have them wait until I need Making Waves after Time the Healer comes.

Good to know that the Carnelian route works. It's one I'm following myself, and look forward to treating the path you have cut. But it'll still be a wee while before I can claim membership of this most exclusive club.

It works quiet well, to the extent that I'll be returning there quiet often in the future. Not only for monetary gains - I've grown fond of the place and even after all this time is does not seem tedious. Or maybe I've just gone mad, who knows.

Pretty much. There might have been more efficient approaches but it's easy to sink a lot of actions into those very quickly.

I'm pretty sure the Soul Trade is the most efficient (non-card) method available. It's somewhere near 1.8 EPA.

(And that near-1.8 EPA will be bringing me to immortality myself, soon enough. It would be a couple of months sooner but I'm not selling all my gear for this.)

I thought I'd be saving my gear to. I thought I'd be saving a bunch of stuff. But the closer I got the more I just wanted it to be over. I actually lit 2 Rats of Glory in the home stretch, despite the risk to my 4 Seeking Candles, just to get there a couple days early.

To be honest, I'm actually kind of enjoying not having all my optimized gear. It's nice to have a collection of short term goals again. And also to have an excuse to wear this crab mitten that is my only remaining glove. Snip-snap!

That was a ride indeed, and twice I crossed heavy losses by Heists, around 20k echoes lost total. But still, here I am.

Welcome to the club! That sounds like an interesting road indeed. Heists weren't part of my grind. I didn't realize they could be so dangerous.

Failing a heist causes an instant trip to jail iirc, so after enough times it fines 10%? of your current echoes and certain other items.

There are three factors of success.
Call in Favours in the Flit, trading with Revolutionaries. Counting in Red Pin usage to raise connection immediately after that still gives awesome EPA.

Then there is (was smile ) Ubergoat, One stone in a thousand (pretty good for spirifier due to soul exchange), and that one card with trading Favour: Criminals to Prisoner's Honey.

Heists may be not ideal in itselves, but they could be optimised while still giving nice random to not bore the head out. Also there is interesting behaviour about opportunity deck refreshment, so I upgraded almost all currently available Renowns to 40, while farming.

Is it better than "A strange sort of prank" ?

    Lets calculate.
    600 Rev = 8xWear the pin (minus 12 Echo for 24 Actions)
    600 Rev. = 5xTrade favours (plus 144 Echo for 5 Actions)
    (144 - 12) / (24 + 5) = 4.55 EpA

Hmm, its really good. I wonder how often you can draw it with optimised deck. And whisper-satin is a problem.

I've finally obtained Hesperidean Cider. I've been a citizen of the Neath for quite a few years, so it hasn't been endless grinding. My progress in Ambition Heart's Desire has been stuck with a marvellous deck of cards at 100 and Ambition 210. Finding a marvellous venue is stuck at 1 though. Finding the Queen hasn't worked. Anyway, I'd be happy to offer a sip of the H. Cider as a celebration to others. Jamit.

A while back, Mr Shepherd asked if I would keep a list of all those who have Hesperidean Cider. Now that I am qualified to do so, here is that list.
For sips, I find these are excellent guidelines.

As for next level goals after getting Cider, I've been working on what I call the Trifecta of Hard to Gather Items - Cider, Heptagoat, and the Seven-fold Knock. Each grind takes about 1-3 years from what I can tell.

How do you get SMEN to Winking Isle levels this fast?

I assume that since Optimatum specified no need to "deal with other requirements" that the assumption is you have enough resources to burn Appalling Secrets all the way to SMEN 21. (actually, you'll only need to get this way to SMEN 13 and use UP cards each week after that to meet the two month estimate).

    I think that's actually expected.

Grinding to get Cider takes a few years of gameplay. Over the years, more people started playing Fallen London, so the number of people that have a lot of in-game money keeps increasing. Therefore, the rate in which more people can afford such things as Cider or the Heptagoat is increasing.

The mysterious Silver Tree Kickstarter benefactor was the first (that was in September 2012).

According to Alexander Feld, he was the second and got his Cider shortly after the Mr Eaten Calling card incident (which itself happened in December 2013).

NiteBrite won the Con-or-Bust Cider auction in February 2014.

Ned Emmons apparently got his Cider on April 2014 (or at least that's when Nigel has announced it).
