So, THAT was what was behind the 7th window of the advent-calendar... a very rare, very dangerous item!

Now, here's my problem: Nevermind what can be gained from it, my pack-rat instinct tells me to keep it, since it's extremely rare - just for my collection! But the warnings that it may spontaneously come alive and steal all my candles if ignored for too long are...worrying. >_>; Is it actually true? Can it self-destruct even if I never try to use it? And if so, is it an eventual certainty, or just a tiny chance of something that MAY happen?

Well now we know what happened to all the anti-candles. Clearly the Rats of Glory consumed them all just as Neathmas was beginning.

Haha, this reminds me of the time I intentionally set off the rat of glory to eat my seeker candles because I wanted to try the new seeking content when it comes out rather than already have all the candles. It took a few of them before I did it, but I was eventually successful. Fun times ;-)

Joke's on you, Rat of Glory! I don't have anything resembling a candle! (No Luminosity items - because I'm anti-Revolutionaries - or Foxfire Candles, and I missed SMEN by quite a bit. Hehe.)

That's not my experience. My alt tried to burn it for Enigmas, failed the Watchful check, and lost both Foxfire Candles (only 18, I think, but still) and some Mourning Candles (a smallish number, but still).

Except that most people who're sane are just selling mourning candles and then using the rat, since the average return on sucess is 250 echoes. Or, for new players, using it to get skuttering squads.

Well, yeah, except seekers seem to be often deliberately losing their candle- nitebrite, for instance- so they can try the new content when it's released, and lose everything all over again.

That's not regular Seekers. That's NiteBrite, who is on a whole different level.

NiteBrite is to other Seekers as Seekers are to normal players. :-)

Personally, I'm not taking any chances with my Seeking candles, despite the potential loss of profits I could have got from activating the Rat of Glory.

Sadly for science, you cannot send a Rat of Glory to someone who already has one; otherwise it'd be interesting to try and accumulate 7.

Though isn't it the same risk whether you use the rat or send it to someone? The only safe option is to turn it into a Scattering Squad.

Though it may be possible for it to activate on sending, I don't believe we've ever seen it happen.

We'd have magic, ofc. the mages method sounds pretty snazzy, doesn't it.

Ratness. which would be where rats of other types are kept, such as vengerats and, well, generally rats.

Thank you Grenem. For, ahem, making my Glory Rat appear where she *definitely* wasn't last time I looked.

You can only sell it for 10 echoes, so that's a whole lot of creating and sending, especially since the access codes are only good for about five days.

Well you can still burn the bloody thing for enigmas, in worst case scenario you get 60 echoes for 7 actions?

Speaking of rat, has anyone ever ended up with his ratty candle waking up or is the warning a little snippet for the future and it can be safely stashed in my lodgings?

Duh, sorry; I know where my brain was and it shouldn't have been commenting here. No, the worst case scenario is you burn the thing and it tries to eat your candles and doesn't give you any enigmas--that's the rare success, not the failure! If you had a whole lot of second chances and a very high Watchful (it's 62% at 262 Watchful), you could still profit nicely, but it's pretty tiring to contemplate, honestly.

Has anyone managed to successfully transfer a Rat of Glory? I'm trying to accept one, but it's saying that the sender no longer has the qualities to send it. The qualities to send it, as far as I can tell are "you must have 1 x Rat of Glory." However, the action to send it removes the Rat of Glory! Thus, it can never be received. I think Mr Lacan would have something to say about this; a letter always arrives at its destination, indeed. grumble grumble jouissance desire schemes of Mr Derrida pout

I echoed the text and took a picture of the outstanding action, and I just checked and the RoG is definitely still in my inventory. I did send mine to Mr Eaten, though, so maybe that's why it's wonky?

More likely, though, something is glitched if it's working differently for you than it did for me.

Are you sure? The wiki only has losing the rat as the result for failure on the check.

Yes, though I probably can't prove it. I should check to see what I echoed to her Journal.

It's worth noting that the "rare" success on this seems a lot less rare than beneficial rare successes. Whereas I've been grinding rare successes in the Flit for about 200 actions and not gotten a single one, this one triggered on the third attempt. Yeah, it could be random chance... but it probably isn't.

You can also have luck challenges followed by a rare success or a rare failure, leading to four outcomes of entirely adjustable %. Not sure if nested is possible though. Rare successes definitely have different frequencies; robbing the drunk rat for a watch is very low, maybe 1% or less, others are as high as 50%. Anecdotal evidence leads me to guess that the Rat of Glory chance of saboteurs is 10%, but you can take that with a grain of salt... especially if you are terrified of losing candles.

On the other hand I suspect the things about your Rat of Glory blowing up at any time or upon being sent to a friend are just tales to scare small chandlers. Nobody's ever seen it happen. There's no evidence it's possible (without a lot of code rewriting and database scraping). That Armageddon switch isn't real. Or is it? OR IS IT?!

Well you could find out, send me your Rats of Glory for science! wink
