I'm an Exceptional Friend, but I held off on starting the story last month because I was worried I'd end up in OOC territory, but now the whole thing, as echoed on a friend's profile, sounds extremely intriguing.
Only it sounds like you could at one point
turn yourself into a lawn ornament
and by the time I'd get around to playing the story my character would be in a state of mind where it's quite possible he'd actually do that. Can it happen and if yes how badly will it hurt (stat- and story-wise)?

I'd like to know what happened with the Sometimes choices too to be honest. In return I offer this little reward based trinket in regards of Apis Meet:
Not sure how useful it is since I have no idea what it is for, But I got a Bell of Styian Ivory from exploring the ruins for what I can only assume was a Rare Sucess since the other times I got the coral thing. Might be handy if you ever want more than one for some reason.

Also, another question:

What happens if you picjk refuse Absolution? Do you get something or should I go for the menace reduction?
Edit: you can only have one spoiler tag per entry. I moved the quoted reply to one tag; I suggest you edit yours to do so as well.
Explored that location for 4 days (3 days before leaving south, 1 day more when I returned back) so yeah, it looks like it was a rare success indeed, or you had some things or conditions that made you get it instead. Grats on that BTW. (And drat, due to the choices offered, I had to zail back to FL after 3/4 of all my 40 turns were used, so still not in FL if I have to finish the story there. So I can't answer any other questions about "granted" or "refused" things ATM. )

Aughgh, I am consumed with indecision again this month. You've really done some completely fantastic writing, Alexis, and outdone yourself in the process.
Should I leave Silas? If I do, would it utterly change (or remove) the visit that he's meant to make to my Lodgings in December? Or would the story progress as usual, making his removal pointless?

Also... damn. Didn't realise that "stay away from me" genuinely meant "leave", rather than "please keep your distance". Ooops.
The mouseover text on the Outlandish Artefact is one of the greatest things I have ever read. Thank you.

Well, I decided not to wait for the typical 3H 20M (actually 6 40 with Exceptional Friendship) turn refill and get enough to just finish the story. I was not disappointed. The story was masterfully done, and brought up questions such as who deserved forgiveness, who deserved a second chance, and what risks would one take, or would one even do what they typically do as done before; especially considering if one wanted to break the cycle of mistakes?

(Looks like I better slip that old spoiler tag on)
In the end, I did take the risky path option on the story, but I played a "prudent" option as my character was apt to do. Then again, about 40% of the way through the second part, I realized if he kept doing what he always did, nothing would change. Egged on by that thought, he risked the "optimistic" path. That option as well as the heroics in the first chapter which now allowed the scarred one to become the "Woman in Yellow" of whom became the new Deputy (Sorry about that, Showman.) I asked her to keep hope alive and try to "look forward." Little did I know how useful that would be later.
I decided to stock up with as many supplies as possible, and even spent three days in Caution exploring multiple stories. When I had to make my journey to Flint, the journey South was easy due to my current stats and stocked options all being filled. (I'm glad practicality was there for that first 40% however it seems.) My choices I mentioned earlier allowed me to convince her not to become...stone topiary. She stayed with me and not as a "prisoner."

I spent time talking to the "revived statues" and found the snippets of the different time and cultures a delight. I then met my nemesis (not Nemesis, that's a whole other Ambition story....) from the last part of the story and Parlayed. I decided to work with her, thinking I did not know all the story and got the tablet back as part of the deal. She went her way and I mine (I am sick of Betrayal as a former player of the Game so I kept my word as well as not doing stupid things "because they are there" so no drinking of the Wound.)

When I returned, I parted with the Woman in Yellow, my Deputy, and her Favour increased. I was honest about my actions to the "Bishop" so I decided to refuse Absolution (no reward or punishment for such, and anyway I really didn't have the right Quirts I wanted to boost,) I asked to explain the Thief of faces to me and finally understood what fueled true Hatred (double bonus, my Main did not have that Dread Surmise; now he does.)
Having Apis Peak is just an awesome bonus now the story is ended. Rarely do I want to take a ship ride just to play around with the stories; this is that notable exception (oh fine, the items are great that I can get from Caution also.)
And my character was changed in Spirit, but not in any way permanently or so it seems. (Those Stained however, may have a chance at Redemption...should they dare.)
(I tried to Echo as much of this story as I could to my journal (it is in the truthseeker's link in my sig; feel free to read it with my blessing.)
Overall, the intricacy and detail to the little things we had in the story was masterful. Things seen or referenced introduced years back now made a reappearance, as well as the more recent Sunless Sea references (as well as some of the "Swag" which even if it never is used, was cool just to have on the FL end.) The Pathos and Ethos was notably moving and when you question "why do they do what they do" and get such a prolific answer, that alone makes this worth the cost of the story. Then throw in the "moral choices" you have to choose between "your goal or another life" and it's all icing on the literary cake. (And having that new zailing destination spot is great) "Lost in Reflections" was my favourite story, because this now is, hands down. I only regret it is over....that and I can't permanently join the Menagerie Circus.

Alexis, I hope they allow you another foray into the darkly-lit room with enough Darkdrop Coffee to write like this again one day, but if this Opus required you to "take a Room at the Royal Bethlehem" and retired you in this kind of work (or seriously, you actually are retiring from writing FL in this manner,) then it was one H**l of a Swan Song....if the Swan was infused with Red Honey and Laudanum.

Bravo Sir, bravo!

Hey, so I decided to make the incredibly foolish choice
While in the vineyard, allied to the Patroness. What happens if you betray her or remain allied to her - and what happens if you don't nearly die from drinking from the wound? I feel like I might have missed out on something since I just kind of woke up with the essences and then left the Vineyard... Also, what happens if you do the commission in Apis Meet before the expedition? I did it after and post facto got a way to hinder an opponent...
So, I got my ticket to cross the Zee and... Well, it's been a while since I've used my Zubmarine, so I'd forgotten what was involved.

R.I.P. all of those Qualities I hadn't used up. RIP my Fascinating. RIP my Casing. RIP my Dramatic Tension. :-(

Hopefully the rest of the story is good, and I won't feel so bad about the loss.

Would some kind and benighted soul PM me about the results of the foolish choice at the Wound? I'm quite curious.

I'll post it here so people won't have to ask for PMs every time, so beware, spoilers about risky choices with The Wound!
You die (8 Wounds), gain 2 levels of Nightmare, gain 5 levels of Dangerous, and.. lose 40 levels of Persuasive. At least I went 200->160.
Oh, also. This was the best experience I've ever had in Fallen London. I just loved this story with every gram of mass in my body. If I could marry it I would. In fact I think I will!

Having just completed the story... *standing ovation* Bravo! I throughly enjoyed the story; this may well be the best monthly story yet!

A few spoilerish questions I have:
Has anyone freed more than 5 different people in the Garden? So far I have:
    - a wounded man
    - a delighted woman
    - a crying woman
    - a most vengeful rat and
    - a snuffer

Also, did anyone choose to find out more about the bishop for the final reward choice?
I don't know what does this say about me, but I found Flint kinda cheerful and optimistic, even more than Polythreme? Like, come on, you have a friendly city of talking animals, fat scowling lady with a cute handbag, the Bishop is giving a TED talk, and the only one who can potentially do bad things is the player.

Almost forgot the Delightful Adventuress though, such a jerk. I am not taking back what I said, though.

This was such a great story! However I was confused with one thing, after returning to London and talking to the Bishop, I was able to hire more assistants, choose another deptuy and when I pressed 'Onwards!' I got the reward for "returning" with my the new deputy in one piece, I take it this is not intended?

    The results aren't consistent.
I got a few points of wounds, gained some levels of Dangerous, and.. lost ONE point of persuasive. Also got a primaeval hint.
• I continue to require a spot of help, as I'm apparently stuck in Apis Meet with no clue of how to carry on. I've been to the Mountain but was whisked back to the Meet with the Menagerie and can't find an option to go back. To my knowledge, I didn't finish the story. Help.
