Soulless Downsides Messages in this topic - RSS

Xane has risen greatly through the ranks of hell, and somehow has achieved an "An Intimate of Devils" quality of seventeen without having his soul forcibly removed from his body. What he would like to know is this: what are the downsides to not having a soul? What actions does it lock you out of? What new actions does it unlock?

Besides the Benthic no love for the Soulless, you cannot "Talk About Something Else" with the Chamberlin if Soulless in Counting the Days. If done with the University (but it is then more difficult to regain your soul back, see below,) this is the only "penalty" that regularly is an issue. The Relicer as noted before, gives a nice reward additional option instead of penalty for being soulless
Some Exceptional Stories (or fate Locked stories) could have Soulless blocked paths or only be open on certain paths if Soulless. I'll leave it to other members to list them if any are applicable (with just the names of the stories (and no further details as it's Fate-locked)

I'll say that even if interested in selling your Soul, and not spending Fate for the Soul Trade, the Sackmass Devils Connection card option is much more profitable than the normal Intimate with Devils option. (But again, the best thing is to spend the Fate and play the Soul trade and get that other "What Profit" card drawn as a PoSI.)

Specifically you get your soul back through a Bundle of Oddities with value 200. Surprise packages go up to 1008 so can provide greater rewards but are not very reliable. The easier persuasive check on the Your Public card is the best repeatable way I know of, on success giving a Bundle with values up to 220.

Specifically, the closest option is if you draw the The One's Public card and choose Speak for a little while and ask them to disperse (1-200 exactly range, but if the wiki is not accurate and it is 220, then the below is a closer range.)

If looking for a non-draw option like the Urchins used to offer, the closest option is if you are (still) investigating in the University.
Should you have ended the "frivolous carousel" term at the University (where being soulless means you have alternate bitter options at Benthic while on the term,) and started your murder investigation, The student body has a 1-204 Bundle of Oddities for those who wish their soul back "fishing" chance and have not maxed out that term Passing. Should you sell your soul (and again, the best option is for those who buy the Soul Trade Fate-Locked story and get the "What profit" card for a 300+ echo option should you be a PoSI,) this is the quickest non-fate constant non-card draw way to recover it.

Should you have left the University "carousel," and don't want to wait for the One's Public in a large card standard pool, the next closest option is the at zee random card draw "Those engines don't sound healthy" Hoist the black flag (Tramp Steamer or better ship) option (unlimited draw attempts as long as you have turns to go through the cards,) with a 1-300 chance. As noted, this is an additional 100 range however. The only other option is to build up supplies for an Fate-locked Temple of Uttermost Wind Expedition with a treasure value of at Least 60 and can go beyond the 161 high end value (and the fate-locked options while having a bigger range, start out with a higher minimum number, but getting 200 this way is not as easy as the free 1-200 options even if harder to draw if not in the University.)

I hope this answers your question and gives you several options you might have not known before.

If the wiki says that Bundle range is 1-200 then it almost certainly is. I mostly get my information of the wiki so any discrepancies are due to poor memory.

...wait, you can get your soul back through expeditions? Or are you confusing the Unpredictable Treasure quality with Opening a Bundle of Oddities?

It's up to you. Selling your soul to another devil will certainly be more profitable than selling it to the Intimate Devils, but you'll continue to receive the Intimate Devil cards once you've reclaimed your soul. If you're already intimate you'll probably draw a card during your soulless period that will reset your Intimate of Devils quality to 0, so it could be an easy way to get that down if it's up there, but unless you then tank your Hell connections you'll still get the first card that starts the whole thing off.

Ever since that beguiling S-o-B took half my stash of souls to show me a way into the Forgotten Quarter only to leave me there without skills or supplies, I have learned not to trust devils....
