Also, back in the day of Seeking Mr Eaten, there was an Impossible! option that required 77 Enigmas. Who knows if it'll be there when SMEN comes back, but . . .

That Impossible! 77 Enigma option still appears if you are a member of God's Editors and it is terribly tantalising!

There's a chance that I've acquired 283 Lenses of Black Glass in preparation for that option's return, just in case I fail it a few times.

I just recently got my 108th, so I'll have at least one try. Between the Nadir, Heists, and FW they're almost certainly the easiest 62.5e item to acquie.

(Outside of Diaries of the Dead and other bazaar-purchaseables, at least)

I got about a hundred Enigmas replaying Affair of the Box. Not the most efficient way to go about it.

You get Searing Enigmas at the end of the storyline section of it.

If you put enough Fate into it? Yes. Getting over 100 would mean spending 330 Fate in total (10 for each reset).

I still don't get why people would grind so long for an Impossible Theorem when they could update their lodgings once a year in other cheaper ways? Considering the time and turn grind the newly attempting have as well as the death risk/second chance cost, it seems like an equivalent wait for the above. Is Establish a Parabolan Base-Camp/the chance at Mr. Eaten returning that important? (If it is, consider the question answered.)

I personally try to get everything I can solely because it is there. No other reason required.

Yup. I got the 5-card lodging the easy way, but still got the Theorem. Right before the changes to second chances, I'll note, so happy to have gotten _that_ in under the wire!

I believe there is actually one other use for an Impossible Theorem, though it has only been done once.

I was grinding Fist of the Bazaar and Connected: Masters. The Enigma were just a nice side benefit.

39! MY FEVER GROWS WITH THE NUMBER!

Now, once I actually have my ducks in a row here...will a failed attempt at securing the Theorem EAT my Searing Enigmas?

You can check the failure result here on the wiki: http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Locate_an_Impossible_Theorem

According to the wiki, failing the skill check to locate an Impossible Theorem only costs you one Searing Enigma, so you won't have to grind them all over again. It also explodes you and takes a few Sudden Insights, so it might take you some additional time to pull yourself back together, so to speak.
