Day 9 of Mr Sacks is a Black Border Card, right?

Bit late, but I've now updated the 12 Days of Sacks Guide with the new Fate-locked story. Did not have much time to play and no luck drawing cards when I did, so I had to wait for the cards becoming storylets today. wink

Have to say I really liked that Devils story; it probably has more text than all the other Lacre investigations and arguably the best reward item for anyone not on Ambition: Bag a Legend!

Rupho Schartenhauer has killed a Master, well: most of it.
Cortez the Killer has killed a Master, definitely.
Deepdelver has begotten a star. It's... complicated.
Dr. Kvirkvelia, gone NORTH on 23/12/1894.

I've enjoyed the Devils and Duchess stories most from a lore standpoint, the Dockers as a little snippet and the Rats only because of the reward.

The Devils I thought brought some intriguing insight into the various different eldritch powers beyond the Correspondance, which we're also beginning to see more of from the Railroad content, which is neat.

The first post of this thread has been a great guide for the past 6 years. Will it faithfully lead us through the merriest of seasons for a fateful 7th time? wink
(It probably will, since Failbetter haven't dropped any hints about Sackmas getting a makeover!)

Well. This is probably helpful.

As a mid-game player, should I acquire a semiotic monocle? Are the rewards worth it?

They are very expensive, and I need so much money at the moment (20 working rats. 60 copper rings. 5 vakeskin boots. a ratwork derringer...)

Send me anything you like. Be decent, though. Bad stuff is fine if you attach a warning.

Once you've gotten upgraded lodgings and whatever else requires Taste of Lacre, you can exchange 7 points of it for a Vial of Tears of the Bazaar on a card in the Nadir. So, how much is an extra point of ToL worth?

It's also really nice that you can sell it back for a much higher exchange than usual, so I bought it.

I REALLY want one upgraded lodging. More is just gravy, but I always have liked Xmas gravy smile

Semiotic Monocles are for Sacksmas. And the Noman is the most heartbreaking prose in the game.

You are too green for it, blue socks, wait until next year.

LOL, nicely put.

I need a nice suite, for ambition reasons. The Noman can wait a year.

It darn is! I kept him alive every year as long as I could so he will be able experience as much as possible, but the ending still gets me every time!

quick and important 2021 update that I haven't seen anyone mention yet! if you happen to have your own Laboratory and certain other qualities, you can Study the Prelapsarian history of the Red Science and subsequently Publish your findings for a Dreadful Surmise.

with a little Dangerous luck, the boars should be eating well this holiday season. :>

If you have too many Storm Threnodies and Night Whispers, you can exchange them for a pail of snow during Christmas. You need the Urchins card.

In general, unless you're doing something for which you need a LOT of taste of lacre (like trying to make the ridiculously powerful noman that lasts until the feast of the rose), trading storm-threnodies and night-whispers for pails is a really bad deal.

Social invitations of all kinds welcome! I'll return boxed cats and letters, and happy to accept plant battles. LMK if you need a discordant missive or a point of notability.
