Hello, and good evening to all. I am in need of a certain, large quantity of brass buttons. 5000 of them to be specific, for a rather merry gentleman. Could someone mayhaps be able to give some brass buttons to me? Or if this is not possible, at least advice a good way to acquire them in large amounts and with due haste? my profile is: http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/Profile/Lord~Arturus~Dragonne
Thank you in advance

I believe (I'm also at this stage of the ambition, and on the process of acquiring a ship) that giving him your dreams also works, in case raising those happens to take you less time than to become a PoSI and acquire a ship. It's a matter of luck on drawing dream cards.

If you value those qualities at all, though, the price is too high, and the story will soon require the ship anyways. it may be theoretically possible to continue with just the polythreme ferry for some time yet, but it's highly inconvenient, and the story gets progressively more expensive from here on. For most people, it'd be wiser to buy the ship, and put the ambition on hold until then.
Also, the text when you turn the brass in might be interesting to you, though it's probably just a waste of 45 echoes of goods. It's no bold revalation, no prophecy from heaven, but it is a little, interesting, moment of characterization. edited by Grenem on 11/7/2015

Snow Belie is one looking for her Heart's Desire. I can say that you never, ever want to give up the Dream ranking, as even if the card draws are standard, the time getting to those ranks again is ridiculously long since you have to draw them all enough frequently to that value.
And as noted from other replies, it is not an option choosing the Brass selection, unless you wish to read flavour text at a cost of 45 Echoes worth of goods.
So that leaves one left. The Stone tentacle Key requires a ship. Even if you get the inexpensive Tramp Steamer, you need to progress on the Wolfstack Docks to the point where you have crafted or won the following: 1 Bazaar permit, 1 Legal Document, 1 Personal Recommendation, 1 Cellar of Wine, 1 Whirring Contraption, 1 Volume of Collated Research, and 2 Strong backed Labour to get to the buying a ship section, whoich you need really to be a PoSI to do. At that point, you can just buy a cheap Tramp Steamer and worry about getting the components for a full ship later (or if you so wish to do the high-end cost now, you could try for a proper ship, but that takes 1-2 weeks of grinding on average when you solely focus on that, give or take a few turns on played card draws, and this is assuming you are a PoSI of course.)
If you have any questions on any specific details, just post in the thread.

It is not possible to give you brass buttons. It is also the wrong option anyway.
You need a certain key.
But first, you need a ship.
