Yes. I think you need everything at 100 or better to become a POSI. I'm grinding Dangerous myself, as well as Shadowy. At least there is plenty of silk in the former, but also lots of bumps and bruises. That will give you a chance to unload your brass, buy something Dangerous. Spiderchitin Gauntlets, perhaps?

Hmm...can't one just pump up their stats up to 100 with equipment to pass that part of becoming a POSI? That's what could happen last time I checked that storylet, at least.

Speaking for myself, my raw Dangerous has not reached 70 yet, and I think the same applies to Th8827.

My Dangerous is 51+9. It is not my first Priority (I'm also grinding the Melancholic Curate and his Sister on Veilgarder to get the Threesome ending)
In other news, I have accumulated a lot of Implacable Detective's Business Cards... Can someone explain the rules for the Cat and Mouse game?
I also need a source of Abominable Salts... I can spend 4 Echos on it to continue the spider quest, but I would prefer not to spend Echos. I have to grind Foxfire Candles, instead... unless there is a better source of Salts. edited by th8827 on 11/15/2015

Personally, I have a whopping +9 to Dangerous, so yeah, I need to work on it a bit.

My stats, with my best equipment for that stat equipped, are as followed. Watchful: 66+12 Shadowy: 53+11 Dangerous: 52+9 Persuasive: 87+15 I can get -2 Dangerous or -1 Persuasive by equipping detrimental gear. I have permanent +5 Shadowy due to my Fate. edited by th8827 on 11/15/2015

I have to grind Foxfire Candles, instead... unless there is a better source of Salts. edited by th8827 on 11/15/2015 The basic idea of Cat and Mouse is that you have 10 actions to accumulate 50 "Cat: Getting Warmer" to achieve your goal (60 gives a bonus payout). Each step on the way you can either take a luck check for free, or pay resources for a guaranteed boost to Cat. The further you go, the more points of Cat are at stake with each action, and the more expensive it is to guarantee success. Paying your way the whole time obliterates your profit margin, but not paying at all is liable to result in failure.
Personally, I think you get a better payout by using the Business Cards for the "Dangerous Pastimes" action when engaged in another chase (such as for a piece of the Screaming Map). With good enough watchful, you can build a decent stockpile of Incendiary Gossip.
Converting Foxfire Candles is basically the only reliable source of Abominable Salts. At your stage of the game, I'd suggest getting candles through the Church vs. Bohemians conflict card (seduce option), or else by calling in Favours with the Church if you have access to the Shuttered Palace and sufficient connections.

Speaking of the Screaming Map, I have the opportunity to search for that. What is the recommended skill level for the event itself, after the BDR check?

Personally, I would only start looking for the Screaming Map's pieces after you are able to get a ship, and even then, only if you wish to go to Polythreme, as the game is suggesting (and you should give Polythreme a go, one day! It is quite an interesting place, although very grindy. Well, um, depending on your Ambition, you might have to go there. I shan't spoiler things.).
For now, I think that there isn't much point for you to go after the map, unless you want to sell the map pieces (which is not all that lucrative, I suspect, especially if you are not a PoSI, because one of the map pieces can be sold for more if one is a PoSI. Selling gives nothing special: presbyterate passphrases for the left-hand side, and muscaria brandy (or puzzling maps if you are a PoSI) for the right-hand side).
Since the Screaming Map search options are cat-and-mouse-based, I believe you don't need high stats for it beyond the BDR requirement to 'open up' the chase (and this BDR check will be much easier, too, with PoSI items). You should just keep lots of items around in case you need to buy your way to cat-and-mouse success (I believe it'll be stuff like whispered secrets and cryptic clues and puzzling maps), as Kaigen is suggesting. And if you want to use the map in conjunction with the detective's cards, in the manner that Kaigen is suggesting, then only your Watchful is necessary, I suppose.
TL;DR I would continue banging for PoSI-dom first, and then worry about the map later. But that's just a suggestion, of course. edited by Sestina Valdis on 11/15/2015

Incidentally.... how does one discover what their acquaintances may need or desire in-game? Totally in the dark when it comes to these social-type actions.

Usually...well, you could ask them on the forums, if they can? Or send a social action and ask what they want? Hmm...

I get that part.... but a few delicious souls here seem to have known when I needed wounds cared for, and I am not sure how they would have known, since I hadn't previously spoken of them.

They could have browsed their lists and noticed that you were eligible for the healing action (with the very fact that you are eligible implying that you have at least Wounds 3). I've had some friends who intuited that I required healing requests in that manner! edited by Sestina Valdis on 11/15/2015

OK.... I am feeling incredibly thick... but I cannot find any such lists... in fact, the only place I can see to find a list of my current acquaintances is on the Myself tab > Acquaintances > Acquainted with...
But that is but a litany with no links....
Sorry to be a bother, but I feel like a leech with folks helping me and I have little way to repay such efforts....
I mean, it all fits my character, RP-wise, but as a flesh(ish)-and-blood player, I feel a bit differently...
EDIT: Ahhhhh..... NOW I'm starting to find this stuff...... the learning curve is starting to become manageable..... edited by John Savage on 11/15/2015

When one chooses the healing action -- which is a subset of the "Inivite a Friend to do Something Dangerous" choice in your lodgings -- he is sent to a screen with a pull-down list showing all eligible contacts. If you have 3 or more wounds, you're on the list. This is true of all social actions: when you select one, you're sent to a list of eligible acquaintances with whom to do it. Try one yourself, and you'll see what I mean. And that is why, e.g., I sent you an offer of healing. As for healing, it costs the healer nothing but an action point. That's not a particularly valuable commodity.

I hope everyone's POSI grinding is going well, mine I admit is more of a contented meander -so if in need do feel free to send over your menace reductions. Thank-you for the advice on Cat and Mouse - that had been puzzling me for a while. But speaking of Stat bumping, now that I have one, what is the best use of Trade Secrets. If I'm understanding the wiki right it looks like it might be best to turn it into Antique Mysteries and Searing Enigmas - or maybe to save for use in story writing? Thanks in advance.
