Everything seems to be working but it is all extremely slow. I've not encountered any error messages, but load times are around thirty seconds every time I try to do something.

Experiencing mind-numbingly painful loading times today as well... My main utterly lost his mind and failed into permanent "Something terrible has happened" state.
My alts survive for now, but being able to spend 1 AP per 20 minutes of loading and crashing is not the best time they've had.
So much wasted actions, so much shame! I really hope this will be looked into before the team leaves for the weekend...

I tried loading in earlier yesterday (my local time) and the site was down for me. Tried loading in again now (at 3am), and am still getting the same 500 error. Maybe it'll be fixed in the morning.

Am I too optimistic in hoping for some form of restitution of actions depending on how long the issue goes on for? With the issue occurring for over 5 hours now, many have lost out on over 30 actions and opportunity cards. For many this is a great loss of time and echoes, especially for early players who need every action they can get to advance further in the game.

Perhaps. I suspect attempting to tally the actions missed out on by those who couldn't log in at certain times vs those who were able to log in to varying degrees would make an exact recompense fit neatly in the 'too hard' pile.
I don't expect to be reimbursed actions if I sleep for 9 hours as opposed to 7 hours, and accepting that you'll lose some actions is a thing that happens. (You'll progress, trust me on this, even if it means you don't have your very own Overgoat / Firkin of Hesperidean Cider today. :-p Fallen London isn't a race - and if you rush ahead you'll likely miss moments meant to be savoured - so don't fret; you'll get there soon enough. ^_^ )

Having said that, I understand what you mean - I'm trying to get two certain opportunity cards, to get Certifiable Scrap and upgrade a Profession.
I did manage to get one action in shortly after posting my earlier comment, but since then the system has been down. My plan from here is take a nap and see if it comes up later. I am (literally) not going to lose sleep over this. ^_^

Would there be a possibility of recompense in a certain other way? I just purchased Exceptional Friendship for the first time a couple days ago and I haven't been able to access the site at all today. If it's even possible, any possibility that my Friendship could be extended a day?

That's a really relaxed way of looking at this, I like that. Kudos to you, man. I'm not really concerned about getting anything back from all this, missing out on actions and opportunities is nothing new to me and I'm not ready to raise my concern or annoyance over anything more than a feeling of "Oh bother". I'm sure the staff will get the issue fixed soon enough and the majority of loss players suffer will roughly be minute. It would just be nice if we could get something, whatever it be, even if it were a fraction of whatever loss we had. But like you said, it's not that big of a deal. Wellp, I've got it too... Story crashes, all other pages load slowly. Bother. Honestly, though, I was just glad to come to the forums and find this thread, since that means it's not MY problem.
A shared pain is a halved pain, a shared joy is a doubled joy, yes? Cheers, my fellow Londoners, for sharing this minor annoyance with me... ^_^
