New characters in Fallen London now have enhanced opportunities to make their name, in the second of a series of updates to early game content.

The Neath will ever increasingly recognise your intellectual capacities - and as it celebrates your discernment, and recoils from your discoveries, more opportunities will be opened to you.
Of particular interest to new characters, Making Your Name: Watchful is available to anyone who has not solved the troubles at the University.
This is the second of four updates which will improve the early levels of Persuasive, Dangerous, Watchful and Shadowy, in advance of the launch of Fallen London on iOS. Here's a blog about our wider changes.

Is this the first in-game reference to the anchoress Julian of Norwich? How exciting. She's the author of Revelations of Divine Love, the origin of the "all shall be well" quote which is again referenced in the Anchoress' philosophy branches.

If you've finished the University story, it appears you have no choice but to take A Name at 7. If you have "A Scholar of the Correspondence" but haven't finished the University, you have a storylet where you must take A Name at 6. The lower levels are a little more flexible but you need various unique qualities (Acquaintance: the Honey-Addled Detective, or the concluding qualities of the Missing Heiress case, etc) in order to get some of the middling levels.

Burly Jim, what number your "A Name in Seven Secret Alphabet" story quality at?
Note for Failbetter: any new player who does a bunch of Shadowy stuff before getting midway through the Watchful tracker might run into the same problem Sara did, so it might be good to put the "No Seeking..." requirement onto the branch inside the storylet that starts "Find a Tattooed Courier's contact" rather than on the storylet in the Ladybones Road root, since branches can be visible even when their requirements aren't met, and the other two requirements on the root storylet will suffice to make it appear/disappear at the right point in the tracker.

The tiers appear to be:
- Find the Honey-Addled Detective
- The case of the Tattooed Courier's Contact
- The case of the Absconding Devil
- The case of the Missing Heiress
- Choose a side in the raid on the Brass Embassy
- An archaeological expedition to the Tomb of Seven
- Investigate the murder of the Senior Reader in _______
The bejeweled lens and Masters connection may be later? Foucault, I imagine you can just go to the University now and make your way through the "Featuring in the Tales of the University..." storylets until you finish the seventh tier (assuming you want to lock off those storylets).
I am going to have to think about whether I want to lock off a relatively fast source of Hedonism 10+ before I finish the first half of Term Passing... [UPDATED: acquiring the "A Name in Seven Secret Alphabets" quality does not change where you're at in Tales of the University, so no cheap Hedonism for me]

Ooh, there's a new Major Lateral quality too: Identified with a Philosophy. Seems to work much like Identified with a School, including one option that rejects all labels and associations (Identified with a School: Your Own Genius). There's also the philosophy of the Anchoress, the Unconfined... and one other that I didn't catch. (Update: the Implacable Method! Perhaps named after a certain elderly firebrand.)
Since this seems to be initially assigned at the 2nd tier of Watchful, I'm assuming there will be some way for those of us who were already later on the tiers to gain or change our identification. Should be interesting?

I didn't have the storylet trigger for Madison either, likely because she hadn't done anything with the Honey-Mazed Detective. I was able to get on the tracker by talking to him in Ladybones Road.

The raid on the embassy used to unlock in the Watchful 50s and gives you a permanent quality, either an "Infernal Informant" or "Constable's Pet." Just a single story, IIRC, choosing between two connections.

Thank you, good to know my progress was as-intended at least.
@Lucas - As for a reset code, it was a gratis last time for this being so new, and being quite buggy upon its first implementation. This time seems to have been relatively without hiccups, but there's always a chance of a code. If not a public one, perhaps a feedback email one they may provide in cases of genuine error. No harm in asking I'd think.
