Afraid so. It's not unknown to have both menaces up to 7.5 or whatever and have to cash in a lovely catch for menace reduction. Please see my previous comments regarding patience.

For what it's worth, I started the festival with full candles the moment it was live across four characters, and didn't encounter the hooded lady once -- not even on my double-candled character. When I returned today (within the last hour), all four of my characters encountered her pretty quickly.

EDIT: Twice, on the two that I tried to get her twice with so far. It's definitely the rarest catch cash-in event by a significant degree, but doable.

Of course I met her almost right after I wrote that post. Fortune is a silly thing.

Also: ah, so THAT'S how you get those nifty Destinies!

Fishing may not damage quirks this year but be careful - a couple of the encounters at the Festival hit them.

And you can find yourself unlucky enough that the only way to progress is via one of these. So in essence, the Festival can still kill quirks.

Just curious, but is following them to the well with your catch a good option? I got most of the rewards last year (save for that blasted mutersalt) and am looking for anything profitable/useful.

Specifically, Austere and Hedonist, by eating with either the Chef, or the Curate, respectively. No increase in the opposing quirk above 4, but it will decrease even if you have 10 (haven't tested higher).

Other quirks are safe, as far as I can tell!

(Better than safe, because failing at Zee increases them at low levels. Very nice indeed, although at least mildly plausible that someone might increase a quirk that they don't want to. Not an issue for me, because I'm only trying to keep a few quirks low or zeroed out, and those are all paired with a quirk I want for that character. It's a fun system.)

I can confirm that Austere and Hedonist can be lowered even if above 10. Be careful, everybody.

Going to the well seems to be fine: you get a pile of 'mystery' fungibles - appalling secrets, extraordinary implications etc. No idea if it's the best return on your catch, but it isn't bad. (Apart from the nightmares, of course).

WARNING: This will reset your Running Battle... quality, if you have it.
I had forgotten about this. And I don't believe I saw a warning before spending 5 Actions to catch the ferry to the island. Would have been a good place for a warning of this kind I think. It would kind of act like a warning ahead of time instead of a warning that makes it a choice of spending 10 Actions to go back and finish that Running Battle and then return, or throw all progress overboard. Oh well. (I was probably cautious enough last year, and read the wiki before leaping into a storylet. One should always fear the zee. It takes things.)

It requires a bit of luck in how often the Partial Map option comes up. You'll probably need to toss your catch back once in order to get a better chance at 10. That's how I did it last year.

I've got my Running Battle to 8 a couple of times now, but going into the Cove reduces it to six! It's getting really frustrating.

Also, if you confront the Hooded Lady, does that mean she's gone for the rest of your stay, or does she just show up annoyingly infrequently?

Alas, the RNG can be cruel. Confronting the Hooded Lady has no effect whatsoever.

To get high running battle you need to spend items and hope for a good run with options that doesn't just give the quirk options. You can also throw your catch back and start with some Running Battle.

To get the items needed for the non-quirk options use the menace reducing options with the Curate or the Chef.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

I'm having the opposite problem from most people it seems. How on earth do you keep Running Battle below 5? I have been trying to get the lower level prizes but I can't seem to do badly enough at fishing. Do I need to tank some of my quirks?

Failing the quirk challenges does lower your Running Battle, but as going to the Cove can reduce your Strange Catch level you can get the lower level prizes with the Strange Catch you get at Running Battle 5.

Thank you for reminding me! I've been discounting the Cove reductions as my earlier trips to the Cove didn't drop my Running Battle by much. As a consequence, I had been relegating my Running Battle 5 and above catches to menace reduction trades. I should probably start trying the Cove with every catch as my lucky streak should have ended by now.

Just after posting this, I achieved a Running Battle 4 catch by failing one of the few quirk challenges that I can fail. I went to the Cove and the reduction kept me at 4 so I was able to get the Scintillack Snuff. I only need the Mutersalt now!

Happy afternoon to you all, my good gentlemen, gentlewomen, and gentleothers. After an enjoyable but, occasionally, baffling time at last year's Fruits of the Zee Festival, I've often found my thoughts turning towards a certain furry, armored little fellow. I was unable to make his acquaintence last year and was greatly hoping to do so this, but I am once again finding it nigh-impossible to fulfill the neccesary requirements to do so. Am I missing out on an obvious way to raise my Running Battle over 8 and subsequently trade my Strange Catch for him, or have I just besotted myself with too much cheap mushroom wine?

If you want to befriend the guinea pig, you're going to have to be patient. Basically, use items to boost your catch to at least 7 (higher is probably better), and then turn it in. It will probably take a lot of fishing trips, and a lot of good catches that end up too high or too low, but you will get there in the end. You don't need over eight - seven and some luck will do it too, I believe. There's no trick to it that anyone has found. Just keep trying.
